The Senate immigration bill’s authors acknowledged Tuesday that their legislation does not require illegal immigrants to pay all back taxes, saying it would be too difficult to make them ante up everything they might owe.
Sen. Charles E. Schumer, the New York Democrat who is chief sponsor of the bill, said illegal immigrants by definition are living in the shadows, and requiring them to reconstruct their pay history could be tough — and potentially keep many of them from legalization.
“We all realize that the system is broken. We all realize that people did wrong things. And the goal is to set this right by letting those in the shadows come out,” Mr. Schumer said Tuesday as the Judiciary Committee plowed through more amendments to the 867-page immigration bill. “The worry I have here is that by being as rigid … as this amendment is, that it will delay and prevent many, many people from coming out of the shadows.”
The issue of back taxes is an emotionally charged part of the current immigration debate.
Mr. Schumer and the other members of the bipartisan “Gang of Eight” who wrote the immigration bill have said the legislation requires illegal immigrants to pay “a fine and back taxes,” and that is true — up to a point.

You have to be a US citizen to legally bring in relatives. If these people get amnesty it might take 5+ years for citizenship. They won’t wait so they will bring in family illegally. This goes on now where legal immigrants smuggle in family and friends. Helping them with money to make the trip and shelter once they get here
Here’s an article I posted a couple weeks ago. It doesn’t mention citizenship but does mention green card holder.
If you have the time check it out, it’s not a long article because it looks like this bill would put the new green card holder’s relatives at the front of the line instead of making them wait three years.

Other petty criminals do not have withholding either.
They may well not owe any federal or state taxes anyway but they do owe back payroll (S/S) tax, collect it from the immigrant and from their employers.
That’s correct, some may not have earned enough but they all owe payroll taxes. For those that were paid under the table a flat fee per year should be charged, of course that’s not going to happen if the “Gang” has anything to say about it.
This will allow more than 1.4 million family visa applicants to bypass the current waiting list and be admitted immediately and will permit an additional 2.9 million visa hopefuls to enter the U.S. as temporary visitors. This is outrageous since we all saw what “temporary visitors” did on 9/11. It’s fair to assume that this can only weaken national security, which isn’t all that strong to begin with.

Best I can tell all of this applies to already existing immigrants who are citizens and to green card holders. I am amazed to find here that a green card holder can bring people in here via a V visa. This is quite subversive. I though it was only citizens
Those illegal aliens who get legal status via a Schumer-Rubio amnesty will not be called green card holders. There would be too much outrage. So I don't know how the above will affect them
Thanks, that’s what I was unclear about. It seems I’ve read that it will be a few years before they get a green card but couldn’t remember.
The Constitution does not guarantee citizenship for those having legal resisence and paying taxes.

That's a slogan, not the Constitution. In any case, legal immigrants are not forced to be here, and unless they are here, they can't be taxed.
In short - if you do not want them to become citizens at some point in time - they must be deported.

Well, they should. Arguing because something is politically unpalatable that it cannot be done is a pretty good reason why it should be done. Settling for something that’s not quite right because ‘we can’t get what we want’, is why we’re losing this debate.
You don’t have to deport all 12 million. You start by deporting those you can. Rome wasn’t built in a day, after all.

They could have the exact same path to citizenship as illegals do now, to leave this country and apply for Green card outside as do legal immigrants now. That is a ‘path to citizenship’ without giving them a jump in line.

Agree. If U. S. voters allow the RATs and RINOs to install a permanent leftist supermajority, most of those RATS and RINOs (the non-wealthy) will suffer eventually along with the rest of us, but then it will be too late.
The reason I agree with you that stopping amnesty is not enough is: If amnesty does not pass, Plan B is to use EOs, rogue judges, etc., IOW bypass the Constitution.
