Carney: White House aides insulated Obama from IRS scandal
The Washington Times ^ | May 20, 2013 | Susan Crabtree

Top White House aides first learned of a draft report detailing IRS abuses in targeting conservative groups in late April, but they chose to insulate President Obama by not informing him until it exploded in the press, the president’s spokesman said Monday.

White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters Monday that White House counsel Kathy Ruemmler learned about an IRS inspector general’s draft report looking into the singling out of conservative groups on April 24. She advised senior White House staff including chief of staff Denis McDonough — about the then-draft report, but Mr. Carney said she believed that Mr. Obama shouldn’t be told and other staffers followed her advice.

“To be clear, we knew the subject of the investigation and we knew of the nature of some of the potential findings, but we did not have a copy of the draft report,” he said. “We did not know the details, the scope or the motivation surrounding the misconduct, and we did not know who was responsible.”

Mr. Obama, as well as Mr. Carney, have said they did not know that the IRS was targeting conservative groups until news of the impending IRS inspector general’s report broke in the press May 10. Mr. Obama has said he will not tolerate the political targeting by the IRS and forced the resignation of acting IRS Commissioner Stephen Miller.

Misdirect: This wasn’t just bobbing about in the White Hut starting in April. Bathhouse Barry knew about it years ago when he ordered it.

I’m surprised they haven’t tried this excuse with Benghazi...

Alright... Who DID they tell because the IRS officer was given staged questions to mediate a political response...
And WHY did they let Obama make a fool of himself on TV by appearing not in control of the government which is HIS job...

(I know they’re lying... But keep giving them rope...)

Pretty odd, since I believe the whole scam was cooked up by Obama, and his cronies.

Many have and have done the same for decades. Which is why so many fail.

The phrase is “plausible deniability”. One reason why, while Bush received his daily intelligence briefing in person, 0bama always has them leave it for him to presumably read. Anything he later didn't want to know he can say he didn't read it that day.

Exactly...He's only the president (a very sorry excuse for one), looks like the buck stops with the hired help, or something.

Yep, time for a new slogan: "The Buck Never Got Here".

Carney: “To be clear, we knew the subject of the investigation and we knew of the nature of some of the potential findings, but we did not have a copy of the draft report,” he said. “We did not know the details, the scope or the motivation surrounding the misconduct, and we did not know who was responsible.”

In other words, "Hell yes we knew." Carney's doing a fox trot on the head of a pin here. With his pants down.

What his aides did or didn’t tell him doesn’t change the fact that Obama has referred to Tea Party and other conservatives as enemies and slurred them as “teabaggers” or “bitter clingers,” etc. Did he object to J-Nap and DHS singling out Tea Party types and prolifers as elevated risks for domestic terrorism? Even if it’s true he was ill informed, it’s also true that he’s demonized most conservatives to such a degree that a person could reasonably conclude he would approve of the way the IRS has treated them (except for getting caught doing it).

They are sticking to the idea that nothing can interfere with an “ongoing investigation” and that includes actually working to fix the problem.

A one year investigation just means you keep discriminating against those Tea Party groups for another year.

What nonsense is this?

Nice. The country’s getting screwed. Let’s not tell the President until he finds out about it on CNN.

Keep “insulating” Zero and he will have no clue as to what’s going on. How can we accept someone like that as President? Isn’t this what the libs and the “media” accused Reagan of being: “out-of-touch”? Sure seems like ol’ Barry is being kept out of touch......

He also killed Bin Laden, but wasn't in the room for Benghazi or this. Excuse me where does the Buck stop, in the Oval office or down the hall?
