President Barack Obama comes out of what was arguably the worst week of his presidency with his approval rating holding steady, according to a new national poll.
But a CNN/ORC International survey released Sunday morning also indicates that congressional Republicans are not overplaying their hand when it comes to their reaction to the three controversies that have consumed the nation's capital over the past week and a half. And the poll finds that a majority of Americans take all three issues seriously.
According to the survey, which was conducted Friday and Saturday, 53% of Americans say they approve of the job the president is doing, with 45% saying they disapprove. The president's approval rating was at 51% in CNN's last poll, which was conducted in early April.
"That two-point difference is well within the poll's sampling error, so it is a mistake to characterize it as a gain for the president," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "Nonetheless, an approval rating that has not dropped and remains over 50% will probably be taken as good news by Democrats after the events of the last week."
The CNN poll is in-line with Gallup, which also indicated a very slight rise in Obama's approval rating over the same time period. And Gallup's daily tracking poll also indicated a slight upward movement of Obama's approval rating over the past week. But as with the CNN poll, it was within that survey's sampling error.

Of course obama isn’t being hurt by the scandals. Sure doesn’t surprise me.
That's because the Obama majority has ZERO interest in anything happening in the world except sex and murder.
Another CNN Barry “poll”. LOL! What a joke.
The half of our population living off SNAP and disability payments will stand-up and cheer as the other half is led off to re-education camps.
Well there ya go. CnN says King Obozo is still popular. Oh yea we all love Dear Leader.
no
Of course this survey only included folks not on the IRS audit list, FEMA death camp list, and Obamacare death panel conservatives list.
Another, more reliable, survey says half of Americans think Obama should be impeached:

33% D
24% R
43% I
The Democrats have had years of cover from the mainstream media. It’s not going to change overnight, but it has started. Benghazi will split the Democrats. Even the professors and government employees aren’t going to stand with a party (the Democrats) that overthrows foreign governments for personal profit.
Precisely what percentage of the public even know about the scandals (Hint: Call to poll them on their 0bamaphones)?
Leaving 4 people to die because it didn't suit your campaign.
Using the IRS like the Gestapo.
Using the government to obtain records from private citizens.
Using the EPA, FBI ATF and other agencies to harass American businesses.
Closing GM and Chrysler dealerships that were Conservative.
Using DHSS to fund raise through compulsion of government fines and punishment.
I don't care what they say or how much they misdirect with polls and trying to make this seem "political". That's the latest. Republicans are "overreaching", they're trying to make this political. IT IS POLITICAL. That's what this is all about and the Obama/DNC thugs intended this to be totally about Chicago style politics. So yeah, it is political, but nonetheless, all this must be fully and thoroughly investigated.
CNN taking time out from wringing their hands about nonexistent Islamophobe backlash to fretting about possible Republican overreach.
Who will carry Obama’s water and protect the crooks and evil-doers when the leftist media collapses?
Using the EPA, FBI ATF and other agencies to harass American businesses.
This is the problem with the GOP in a nutshell - they wouldnt mind doing something to embarrass Obama or to make his poll numbers go down, but they lack the intelligence AND the balls to try to remove him - which is, of course, the only thing that matters.
Look at the Nixon affair. He had just been reelected with 61% of the popular vote and 520 electoral votes. If there was ever a President to be afraid of attacking, it was Nixon in 1973.
But the Democrats were methodical, they were highly organized and disciplined, they chose excellent faces (Ervin and Rodino), they never wavered, and they built their case brick by brick to fit a narrative so that, not only would Nixons landslide voters vanish but the country would turn around and elect the most radical leftist Congress since 1936.
Who among the Republicans can you imagine capable of pulling something like that off?
And its worse than that. If you shoot at the king, youd better kill him, because there are no second chances in regicide. The diffuse, disorganized, leaderless GOP investigations will not only not succeed, they will lend credibility to the RAT narrative that its all partisan.
funny...one left winger in my gym always said “it takes two weeks for the news to effect the polls” whenever anything bad came out about Romney...lets see what happens in two weeks...
You say that, but a majority of Americans just voted to re-elect him yet again - despite the awful economy.
There is a slim majority in this country that are going to approve of Obama almost no matter what he does. This dynamic will not likely change throughout Obama's second term. Follow the RCP Polling average and there just isn't too much change in Hussein's approval almost no matter what. Attacking Obama is still valuable because it probably keeps him from being even more popular, but knocking him much below 45-50% Approval will be nearly impossible.
