That ‘statement’ may have had a ring of truth to it back in my ‘yute’ but today it is just about reversed.
I will cite the Jackie Robinson debacle as an example of ‘one couldn’t do something, no matter how good’ just because of his/her race.
Truman/Ike through the military pushed ‘change’, JFK/LBJ created the ‘Great Society’ supposedly the great equalizer and once ‘Affirmative Action, 8A programs’ etal kicked in, the signs started reading ‘White need not apply’ as the Government was insuring Black participation.
Education at a ‘young age’ remains the key. Once people are ‘educated’ they start to rise. It has ‘worked’ with EVERY minority group, who at one stage of this country basically ‘quit school’ at 15 to go to work as there was virtually nothing for them by the time they turned 18.
Good example of this was the American Indians...for years they were tucked away on reservations, barely surviving, till ‘we’ started making lawyers out of ‘them’ and ‘they’ started reading up on what they were promised ‘IN WRITING’ and your virtually ‘taxless Casinos etal’ were born.
When my class graduated in 1957, Blacks probably did need some sort of ‘boost - ala Affirmative Action’ but that program should have being eased out as situations improved’.
BUT, like any ‘government (supposed) good idea’ there is no way it will ever end.....and as long as ‘WE’ keep putting the same ‘trash’ back in Washington (On BOTH sides of the aisle), nothing will ever change, only get worse.

As someone who went to college during the late eighties and has been laid off ahead of several minorities despite my much more productive work history, I call bull$hit on O’Bumblers lie!

For all I know, the Morehouse grads may actually have been told something like that by their parents or grandparents, even if it's not strictly true nowadays.
