I purposely left them because we had frost and a freeze. They protected the plants, to a degree. As soon as the ‘thon is over I’ll be out there. We haven’t as many people as we once had so I hang here.

That’s true. The weeds must provide some insulation, I would think. I was out in the yard for about an hour a few weeks ago, and I sustained about 15 black fly bites. The next time I go out in the yard, I’ll have to go back to long pants, long sleeves, socks and bug spray. I’m just lucky that none of my bites became infected.
