Sincerely hope this isn't true and that it's simply a case of NBC slandering another cop. But it doesn't look good.

The important thing is that the ALLEGED criminal was not hurt, so he can get a fair trial...and that none of the cops were hurt.

That is EXACTLY how liberals see it.

If true, given the number of rounds NY Police use to kill and maim civilians, isn’t it time to outlaw NY Police possessing weapons?

I’m not sure I blame the officer. He put seven bullets in the criminal, but the eighth bullet went astray.

The criminal was pointing his gun at the officer rather than at the girl, so that would seem to be a good time to shoot him.

Maybe eight shots was too many, but he wanted to be sure he got the perp before he or the girl got shot.

I’d call it just plain bad luck.

Or maybe you can blame the judges or parole officers for letting this guy out when he should have been kept behind bars for his prior crimes.

May God help the young woman’s family and the coppers too.

The student may have had a better chance if the cops were still having coffee at Dunkin Donuts.

The 21-year-old Hofstra student who was killed during a Long Island home invasion was shot dead by a police officer as the gunman had her in a headlock and was trying to drag her out of the house, officials said Saturday.

An officer fired eight rounds, seven of which hit the suspect and one that hit Rebello in the head

Come on folks, there was no dog to shoot so the cops’ fall back was the girl. Someone had to be shot, so the civilian got whacked, along with the perp. Collateral damage is OK; no problem. Yup, that’s about right for liberal cesspools like Nassau County.

Very sad. But often in the past, the cops have let things go too long and the killer gets to kill not only the immediate victim but also a lot of other people. Think of that horrible thing in Connecticut a few years ago, where the killers were raping and burning to death a mother and her two daughters...and the police were outside and didn’t want to rush the house because they were afraid somebody might get injured in the shooting.

I think the cops might need more time at the range, but on the other hand, this guy would probably have killed at least one of the girls anyway.

A horrifying tragedy that the young woman was killed, and I can't imagine how her parents feel at losing their daughter. My prayers go out to them.

I have to sympathize with the cop too though, I'm pretty sure he's horrified as well. Hard to say just reading an article but I've been shot at a few times and it always flooded my system and left me twitchy.

Unfortunately life doesn't always have a happy ending.

The police are first and foremost in self defense mode. Never call the cops if YOU need protection

Tragic. The Nassau County police need better training.

I’m not bragging, but our sheriff took out a bank robber at 100 yards who had a gun to a clerk’s head. One shot, one kill.

You need time on the range to make critical shots.

Prayers up for the unfortunate woman.

This story just breaks my heart. God Bless the young woman’s family, and the police officer. He is going to go through a rough time along with the girl’s family. They will need tons of prayers.

I know this seems a little crass but this scene comes to mind from the movie, "Speed."

Harry Temple: All right, pop quiz. Airport, gunman with one hostage. He's using her for cover; he's almost to a plane. You're a hundred feet away... Jack?
Jack: Shoot the hostage.

Harry Temple: You shot me, I can't believe it. They're giving you a medal for shooting me, you little prick!
Jack: Harry... you TOLD me to.

Jack: [after contemplating a solution] Maybe we can do something about these hostages.
Harry: We're not gonna shoot them, right?

Helen: Are they going to help us?
Stephens: Sure they are, they're the police. Hey, your taxes are paying their salaries. We die, they gotta take a pay cut.

You really need to be weary about where you send your children to college. City colleges in particular suffer from a lot of break-ins, muggings, and assaults by guys who look like the home invader in the current unfortunate situation.
