Sadly, this is not the first era of “Know-Nothings” in American history.
The original “Know-Nothings” were largely anti-Catholic and anti-immigrant, and were active between the years 1845 to about the outbreak of the Civil War. When asked about the activities of the party, members were supposed to say, “I know nothing”, and it was also their password to enter the semi-secret meetings.
The current crop of “Know-Nothings” also use some variant of that phrase, and form a semi-secret club within the “liberal-progressive” school of political activity in this country. They are not only anti-Catholic, but anti-Christian as a whole, and while they will not overtly say so, also anti-Jewish as well. But immigrants, they like, particularly Islamic immigrants, it would seem.

There’s one thing Dear Leader knows: If he populates the regime with people of his ilk, they will always intuitively act in concert with his wishes. No orders must be given, and no fingerprints or paper trail will ever lead to him. There’s always a temp or retiree who can take the fall to protect the rotten leadership.
The Washington Week pundits on PBS were abuzz last night that last week at the White House was spent huddling with Clintonista political strategists. In itself, that’s a clear reminder to any potentially honest people of the life and fate of Ron Brown.
They sound like they’re having a contest to see who can do the best impression of Sergeant Schultz.

I’d actually prefer calling them bald-faced liars to the alternative which is incompetence on the level of Dumb and Dumber.
