Statement by Secretary Clinton on the Attack in Benghazi
Press Statement
Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
September 11, 2012
I condemn in the strongest terms the attack on our mission in Benghazi today. As we work to secure our personnel and facilities, we have confirmed that one of our State Department officers was killed. We are heartbroken by this terrible loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and those who have suffered in this attack.
This evening, I called Libyan President Magariaf to coordinate additional support to protect Americans in Libya. President Magariaf expressed his condemnation and condolences and pledged his governments full cooperation.
Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet. The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. Our commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation. But let me be clear: There is never any justification for violent acts of this kind.
In light of the events of today, the United States government is working with partner countries around the world to protect our personnel, our missions, and American citizens worldwide.

Hillary Clinton: How could this happen in a country we helped liberate?

They are conniving lowlifes.
I both agree and disagree.
Having had some "looks" into the corporate world, there are people who are really only great at worming their way up into a power structure, even though their abilities in other areas are suspect at best. This is particularly prevalent, I suspect, in government, where the structure often does not really require one to perform at a high level. In politics, political skill does not always translate into overall intelligence. Some of the Issa committee's Dem reps from safe districts are flat out an embarrassment to listen to, completely aside from their agenda. There is a rough parallel with some "mental prodigy" types. For example, in Engr. school (man, does that seem like a LONG time ago!), of the several Middle Eastern guys, we had a few who's ability to do math in their heads would just make the rest of us (including some real math whizzes) drop our jaws in amazement. But those same "prodigies" were lousy engineering students / prospective engineers.
Take this Patrick Kennedy fellow. He's touted as a top notch civil servant. But after watching him testify (among other things) I again find it almost embarrassing that he is supposed to be one of our best? Ditto for Charlene Lamb, Steve Miller...
Now as for the conniving lowlifes part, unfortunately that is too often the case.
I must concur. Can’t even ONE significant Republican in office come out and loudly ask “Where was the President all night?”
why wouldn't boots have been sent to secure the area even if the attack lasted only minutes?
.
Perhaps it was actually an omission of giving an order? Since only the President can give the cross border authority, what if he just shrugged and went to bed?
The rescue teams were scrambling to get ready for the rescue, but were left waiting for the authorization to go. Remember General Ham said that no one asked for the intervention.
So the teams were left waiting for orders that didn’t come, and someone tells them the CBA order will not be coming, and the commander on the ground would tell everyone that they might as well stand down.
With riots breaking out all over the Middle east, the embassy at Tripoli could very well have been a target, so no one wanted to let that team go to Bengazhi when they would be needed in Tripoli.
Just a possible scenario.
The Undersecretary isn’t a decision-maker when it comes to FEST, and only one person in the US government has the power to issue cross-border authority.
The Kennedy story is a trial balloon.
Were portrayed by Republicans as either being lying or idiots, said one Obama administration official who was part of the Benghazi response. Its actually closer to us being idiots.
just too good....
If they can get her of the mindset that "we didn't know what we were doing, there was no malice intended" in a way they are off the hook and can throw a few aging bureaucrats under the bus.
That way the regime is left basically intact. They then continue with the destruction of the country unfettered.
I hope no one falls for this bs. No one is that stupid. They had generals and admirals trying to help our guys in Benghazi even if it meant losing their jobs. The regime had to know it was a crisis and didn't want to act for the same reason they do everything:
POLITICS!!They had an election around the corner.
How do we document that the UAV was armed. If you can do that its over for the regime.
He’s Hillary’s firewall, but it won’t work because how does an Undersecretary have the power to make that type of decision over his boss?
White House National Security Council
Wouldn’t that be John Brennan, now CIA Director?
Viet Nam.
Who is in charge of the White House when Obama’s awake?
From Wikipedia: John Brennan was former chief counterterrorism advisor to U.S. President Barack Obama; officially his title was Deputy National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, and Assistant to the President. His responsibilities included overseeing plans to protect the country from terrorism and respond to natural disasters, and he met with the President daily.
Actually, I think Thompson said it was a deputy NSC - that would fit with Brennan. I haven’t been able to find a (free) total transcript of Thompson’s testimony. Hicks was the one the media focused on. The administration statement that all resources were available is a lie as evidenced by Thompson’s testimony.
Evidently not. Sad isn’t it. It’s part of the reason why I have come to believe there is only one party.
You make some good points, amigo. Perhaps if Gen. Ham had given the go order, they could have saved those guys. It’s always easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask permission. Gen. Ham was getting ready to retire anyway. As we used to say in the Air Force, “ no guts, no Air Medals.”
See the pattern here.
Obama and the Democrats lied and covered up the terrorist attack, lied and covered up the IRS scandal and intimidated the AP.
Anything to get reelected.
Obama's calculated actions were all about getting reelected and was more important than 4 American lives.
It would probably be difficult.
They will say those 'records' cannot be released due to 'National Security'.
Best bet would be to get one of the Generals who got fired to testify to that being the case.
