Government does not have to fund any pipelines. Private capital is poised to fund and build pipelines from Hardisty to Kitimat BC, to Cushing OK, and to Saint John NB. Talk to the governments of BC, the USA, and Quebec as to why these are not being built.
The Keystone pipeline will be built, unless the US descends into fascism, which seems to be happening right now.

The Keystone Pipeline will never be built. The USA is to heavily invested with politial and financial controls from Saudi Arabia and environmentalists who believe in the religion of alternate renewable energy. Obama himself is fixed by the policy due to his obvious loyalty to the Saudis. The Saudis do not want Candian oil coming into the USA.That will be the end of it unless there is a war that interdicts the flow of oil from the ME.
Canada has a huge potential to market energy resources independent of the USA, and we need to get on with it.
I disagree with the necessity of a fuel marketing board, your ideas are invested with the traditional view that price controls are against the idea of a free market economy. The same tyoe of arguments were nmade in relatiuon to he trans Canada Highway system and the trans Canada Railway system, during the years when those debates were being heard.
IOts time for a trans canada oil pipeline system, and the government can exercise its policy to bring it about quickly. The private funding for the oil ppipeline is like insisting on private funding for electricity transmission across Canada. That would never have worked across the country.
I believe that we could do that and the pay back for Canadians should be cheap fuel for a term certain. Our economy would boom at the individual and corporate local entrepreneurial level. Thats what is needed in Canada. We have the means to do it. I think is a great idea.
And Harper is the man to get it done.
