I don't get it. What could they possibly hope to gain from it?

I'll bet you right now that if anyone bothers to analyze which Tea Party organizations were put through this harass/delay procedure, most were concentrated in the key 2012 election battleground states. By denying these Tea Party groups their 501(c)(4) status, the IRS prevented them from forming, raising funds, and engaging in GOTV efforts in those key states, indirectly affecting the outcome of the election.

If that's the case, this is much worse than we all thought...

Very interesting. If such a pattern emerged, it would be compelling, damning evidence of White House involvement. It would not be the kind of thing that could ever be explained away as mere administrative incompetence.

President Colleen M. Kelley said NTEU would be organizing local endorsements for Obama, running education efforts and turning out union members to vote and participate in campaign events. She said the union would target Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

“NTEU chapters around the country are gearing up their efforts to help NTEU secure a ‘pro-federal employee’ president,” Kelley said.
