Press is grilling Holder same way right now.
The press now has solid facts to chew on, and they’re doing their job.
The issue isn’t how they’re acting today, but rather why so few did the harder legwork, developing sources, following leads to dig this stuff out during the past few months when rumors were flying.
FOX, Steven Hayes, Sheryl A at CBS, were on it, and high-level sources were obviously whispering to them.
It just takes time.
Same thing happened in 1972. Woodward/Bernstein pounded the pavement for months while, for the most part, others did scant coverage of what Zeigler famously called “a third rate burglary.” As we know now, it was far more than that.
It really does take unnamed sources and whistleblowers to get the facts out, and a reputable news organization is not going to run with a story unless they can back it up. FOX, Hayes, CBS was the right folks leaking to them and ran with it.
Now it’s coming out, and what you are seeing today is a pack that has picked up the scent. Same as those unforgettable Rather/Ziegler exchanges in 1973.
