I think that is insane.
The doctors told her she had an 87% chance of developing cancer. I can kind of understand her choice.
Agreed!
No it's not. Read my reply here:
If a doctor told you you had a 90% chance of cancer, you might look at it differently. My wife was diagnosed with cancer a year after the doctor found the BRAC gene irregularities in her. Thanks to a good oncologist and followup, she’s still around to keep me in line.
I don't think it's insane at all.
I agree! We all will die someday from something. From this twisted view we should all just kill ourselves already and be done with it!
Ever lost anyone to cancer?? My mother and mother-in-law both died of BC. In my mother's case, it has spread into the skin. She was one open sore around her entire upper torso. Horrible.
As a result, my wife was VERY attentive to symptoms, and when a very small one appeared in a mammogram, had a double mastectomy and soon enough that she didn't even need chemo and had zero lymph node involvement. The lady who cleans my house also had a double. IMO, the smartest option available.
My sister-in-law also had it, but caught it a bit later. She had to have several lymph nodes removed, and chemo. She did NOT have a double. Again, IMO, not very bright.
This was a plot on the FX newtork's plastic surgery exploitation soap opera "Nip/Tuck" several years ago. A woman's mother had died of it and she was afraid. Of course she never put her cigarette down the entire episode so I guess her fear of cancer was selective. The doctors refused to do it so so took an automated knife to herself to force their hand. The gruesome clip is on you tube.
Have a mammogram every 2 months if you want Angie, she could have afforded that.
Boy. I mean the "87% risk" figure for a body part that can be easily replaced with serviceable fakes? Makes perfect sense I guess, but preventative amputation still makes me uneasy.
