The last time I watched the William Tell Gunnery competition at Tyindall afb (on TV), It was won by Nellis I think tho it could have been Hollonman.
Eglin had been winning it every time but this time they had a missle which wouldn’t growl and he could not shoot. when they got the plane on the ground they could find nothing wrong with it so Eglin lost for the first time in a long time.
I think there is a triangle of the best combat bases with Holloman, Nellis and Eglin being those bases. Those pilots from those bases consider the First Fighter Wing from Langley as the “worst fighter wing”
I do know that in the Iraq war the Eglin squadron made nearly all the air to air kills.
