Uh, because it's true, isn't it? The old M115 8 inch towed howitzer weighed 31,870 pounds - 15 tons and change. If you have access to a decent road system, fine. If you don't, you're out of beer. The only helicopter in the world that can lift it - minus ammo and crew - is the old Soviet Mil Mi-26. Evene then it could lift it very far even on a cool day at sea level. (the Sikorsky CH-53K could probably barely lift it if it didn't have any fuel or crew and even then, it wouldn't get out of ground effect). It just can't be expeditionary - it's too dang heavy.

Your whole thrust seemed to be that towed guns are best/self-propelled aren't. I don't agree. We are in an entirely new era and combat systems must be fast, mobile and agile.

The large towed stuff needs to be relegated to the museums where they belong.

I note that you still haven't said anything about your experience in artillery. If you haven't any grounding in the real thing, what good are your opinions on the subject? If you aren't totally broken down. maybe you should sign up and spend a little time learning about this stuff first hand..
