The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) admitted on May 10 that low level staff in its Cincinnati office, supposedly not motivated by political bias, targeted 75 conservative tax-exempt organizations, including many Tea Party organizations applying for exemption under Section 501(c)4 of the tax code. The groups were singled out for audit and investigation because they used the names Tea Party and Patriot. Yet in July 2011, the IRS had warned employees to drop audits of donors to similar 501(c)4 organizations.

Of course the Obama administration is behind it, but I firmly believe that career civil service employees have taken sides. This is far more ominous than just political pressure from above. I say this from personal experience.
Of course the unionized employees will fight against anyone talking about lower taxes and smaller gov’t, because that means less workers and wages for them. I used to work in a public employee union office and they would do anything to bring down anyone that was friendly to taxpayers.
The typical Postmaster General is usually a businessman ~ my favorite was Bobby Tisch ~ gave me more pay raises than I can count. Klassen wasn't too bad in that regard either. Sometimes you have a career government employee ~ our best Postmaster General in a century was Bill Bolger.
These folks all have subordinates, and many of them come from business and industry, some from the government, some from inside USPS ~ and all the way down.
My immediate boss for over a decade had been at USPS then went out to IBM and then came back ~ supposed to have given him some fresh ideas.
The average age of entry into a federal government job is 35, not 19 as in the private sector.
Describe for us how you get a job at IRS
They used memoranda.
Let’s shut down the USPS and give all the hardworking government employees a chance to demonstrate their skills in the private sector...
IRS commissioner to all employees:
As much as I hate the tea party groups and think they should be given a full body cavity search of an audit, under no circumstances do I want any IRS agent to do that.
Furthermore, as much as I would like to promote any IRS agent harrassing repulicans or conservatives, I want to be perfectly clear that this agency will severely frown on any of these actions.
Depending on what lie they want to tell, their response will be that, 'oh, no, that was in that other group where it's OK'.
This has already happened.
The other element of confusion ~ purposely fostered by the Obama regime ~ is whether or not these 'audits' involved audits of currently active new applications for filing status, or audits of previously approved applications!
BIG DIFFERENCE THERE!
Prepare for more lies.
I"m going to guess this is really about a quite ordinary and recurring audit process imposed by Treasury Department itself, not internal to IRS, and someone diddled with it a bit to focus on organizations of interest only to him and his buddies in the Democrat party campaign machinery.
That way the 'low level' employees would not realize what was going on.
BTW, people who process large numbers of applications over time develop expertise in the types of groups, so you might have an employee who always does Baptist churches, and another who does Colleges and Universities, yet someone else who does Hobby Clubs, or organizations with a chapter structure. Nothing unusual in that ~ which is why a 'low level' employee actually doing the reviews would not necessarily detect wrong doing by a higher level gub'mnt agent dictating which cases were going to be subject to review.
And again, from Obama's perspective even a Regional Director is a 'low level employee'
http://www.irs.gov/Charities-&-Non-Profits/Search-for-Charities There’s a list of every 501(C)3 and 501(C)4 organization online for everybody to search if they wish. No special sort needs to be done internally. In fact, Soetaro hissef’ can access this through the privacy of his own BlackBerry! ~~~~ ANYBODY CAN DO IT!!!!
silly boy ~ you know that check that’s actually in the mail? it’ll never arrive and you know how great it is to get that welfare check every month!
What’s a “check,” you old dinosaur? Can’t remember the last time I received a paper check, and I only write them a couple of times a year.
It’s a digital world, so the box at the street only collects junkmail anymore.
We know where you live eh.
still who wrote it and distributed it via email to the IRS low level people? there must be a digital path to ownership of the questionnaire. Perhaps a smart lawyer out there should have recognized it as an illegal form under the regulations and challenged the need to respond to that. I remember such cases when I was working in the Government. They held our feet to the fire on creating and send out unapproved forms.
Based on the quantity of other folks’ mail I receive, I rather doubt that the USPS know where *anyone* lives.
Give it back.
Absolutely impossible for low level folks to do this without a command from the top.
Absolutely impossible for low level folks to do this without a command from the top.
Absolutely impossible for low level folks to do this without a command from the top.
This need repeating again and again and again. Always remember, the fish rots from the head down.
Having done that I remember the way to deal with things outside the formal process was to just write a memo!
No form is needed ~ the bureaucrat sits down and writes the memo to the supplicant and asks for information ~ and might even specify the format, but probably not.
The only time you need a form is when you have a large number of supplicants with essentially the same 'prey thee lord take pity on my request' situation. Otherwise you just cite a rule in the regulations and away you go.
Asking for the names of donors is simply prohibited ~ asking for the names of OWNERS (of a periodical) OR the names of principal OFFICERS (for any sort of corporation) would always be acceptable.
That's not what was happening here ~ they asked for names of donors, or members.
No form would be provided ~ so I just did a search at >http://search.irs.gov/search?q=donors&output=xml_no_dtd&proxystylesheet=irs_portals_frontend&client=irs_portals_frontend&oe=UTF-8&ie=UTF-8&num=10&ud=1&exclude_apps=1&site=default_collection&numgm=5&requiredfields=-archive%3A1
Someone might have snatched up one of the various documents listed to use for this other prohibited practice of course ~ but that'd be one smart cookie ~ well versed in IRS Processes ~ likely not a terribly low level worker at all!
BTW, agency lawyer rarely know enough about the agency to challenge the subject matter specialists on anything!
Of course it’s a public record.....Auditing them is NOT.
