Tim Tebow blackballed by NFL?
Christian Science Monitor via Yahoo News ^ | 05/12/2013 | David Clark Scott

Has Tim Tebow been unofficially blackballed from the NFL? That's what Yahoo Sports writer Michael Silver is suggesting.

After one season, the New York Jets released the third-string quarterback on April 29. And in the ensuing three weeks, no serious offers have been made.

"No NFL team seems to want him — as a starter, backup, converted H-back or fake-punt decoy — and it's not like he's fending off big-money offers from Canada, either," writes Silver. And Silver blames "Tebowmania."

Yes, Tim Tebow draws a media crowd – everywhere he goes.

As a backup, backup quarterback, one could easily argue that all the attention on Tim Tebow was a distraction for the other Jets players. His media coverage was way beyond his contribution to the team. That kind of spotlight should be on your starting quarterback.

Silver quotes an unnamed AFC coach who says: "He seems like a great guy to have on a team, and I'd be tempted to bring him in as our backup. But it's just not worth dealing with all the stuff that comes with it."

There's a simple solution to that: Play Tebow. Use him. Judge him by his performance on the field, not by the attention his fans give him.

Tebow was good enough as a starting quarterback in Denver to produce a 7-4 record, and pull off an overtime win against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs. Yes, Tebow doesn't have the arm that most starting NFL quarterbacks boast – in a game that has evolved into a QB-centric passing sport. That's a huge disadvantage for Tebow.

So, maybe Tebowmania is the excuse that is being given for those who don't believe he has the appropriate skill set.

But why isn't more credence being given to the former Jets QB Vinny Testaverde's comments

Tim is too popular to be on a team??? That seems unlikely (yes I know he isn’t the greatest player of all time but if he brings in fans why would the owners even care?)

As much as I dislike the Gators, I hope Tim Tebow hasn’t been blackballed. However, there is no telling what The Lord has in store for Tim Tebow. Frank Reich was a relative unknown backup for the Bills who led his team to a huge comeback. Since that day he has shared the gospel from coast to coast in large measure due to the fame he gained from that one game. When Frank entered the NFL he probably didn’t anticipate becoming a pastor and eventual seminary president. He couldn’t have dreamed of one day preaching in my little church, something he has done several times. For a man who knows Christ, life is much bigger than football.

What I think they’re saying is that his popularity bothers the other players since he doesn’t even play. It’s okay to have felons who were brought up on murder charges though.

Testaverde says he and former NFL QB Chris Weinke worked with Tebow in April. "Chris and I looked at Tim careful and we were both amazed," Testaverde told Rich Cimini at ESPNNewYork.com. "Everybody has been focusing on his throwing motion, trying to fix that, but nobody had picked up his footwork. His footwork was all screwed up. Chris and I looked at each other after about four or five throws, and we saw the same thing. We got his footwork fixed. His throwing motion is now a non-issue. "He throws with what we call 'effortless power.' He doesn't have that elongated motion anymore and his head isn't moving 2 1/2 feet when he throws it."

If this were about any other young NFL quarterback who needed to develop, then Testaverde's comments would be at the top of every team's mind and that QB would already be signed. But it's Tebow. It's not about his skills, his intelligence or his work ethic. It's about the media circus. And the media loves having someone to crucify.

If he was a complete thug teams would have been fighting to pick him up even if ti was only suggested that his team was dropping him.

In the Bible Potiphars wife lied about Joseph and had him thrown in jail. He went on to become Pharoah’s #1 leader in Egypt. God has a plan for Tebow and no lies or schemes of sinful men can stop it. Can’t wait to see how He will bless TT.

Tim didn’t have God’s back when he backed out of speaking at this church because of a ‘controversial’(truth telling) pastor.http://www.denverpost.com/sports/ci_22636809/tim-tebow-cancels-speech-at-church. Could be a little payback.

I can somewhat understand that I suppose. I’d think a team would want him just to sell t-shirts with his name on it seeing how popular he is

It's amazing that he could go through all those years in college and in Denver and in New York and no one see this footwork problem and fix it for him. What kind of coaches did they have???

That’s what this is about. The media is now picking who gets to play football. Tebow doesn’t fit what they want to push. He’s not gay, a wife beater, drug abuser or a dog killer.

When watching Tebow as a rookie, I, too, noticed that his feet and over all lower body seems way different. Couldn’t quite place it, but his hip alignment seemed more like that of a pitcher rotating than that of a QB.

I’m in agreement(& biased). I can’t believe the Jags didn’t pick him up. They suck, never sell out without covering 10,000 seats with a tarp, and it’s his hometown.

I’m pretty sure that God isn’t really worried about Tim Tebow’s football career.

Another example of why I have completely given up on all forms of television, including the NFL.

Even in the NFL it is "politics first and above all." Tebow may not be a great, but he is good. Elway canned him because Tebow embarrassed him. Elway couldn't go to the right parties with the right people without facing their disapproval.

Tim has two things against him he is white and Christian. Now if he was black a druggie or drunk girlfriend or wife beater ever one would be after him..

Were Tim concerned about his NFL career himself he wouldn’t have waited so long to learn fundamental throwing mechanics. I’m frankly surprised he was ever even drafted as a QB. He’s a HB or TE at best.

Folks can believe what they want but if Tebow decides to switch to halfback or tight end he will be sought after by many teams. At this point the only thing standing between Tebow and an NFL contract is Tebows own stubbornness. Sheesh......

Well, that's just it - obviously the NFL coaching fraternity doesn't put much stock in what Testaverde says. They think they have Tebow figured out already, and that his problems are not so easily corrected.
