It's been a rough end to what started out as a record-breaking season for openly gay characters on the small screen.
After a 2012-13 season that featured a record number of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender characters on TV, this past week's wave of cancellations may drastically alter those statistics.
Gone are shows that featured prominent gay story lines including NBC's The New Normal and CBS' Partners. Both were semi-autobiographical series about the lives of its nearly all openly gay creators -- Ryan Murphy and Ali Adler on the former, David Kohan (who's not) and Max Mutchnik for the latter -- and featured two happy, committed gay couples. Worth noting, half of both couples were played by openly gay actors -- New Normal's Andrew Rannells (opposite Justin Bartha) and Partners' Michael Urie (opposite Brandon Routh).

Expecting ratings to soar when a product appeals to a fraction of the population is genius!
Hollywierd. Can try as they may to shove their homosexual agenda but they can’t make us accept it as anything other than perverted.
They seem to have vastly more success in co-opting a show that was started for a different market/reason. I’m thinking specifically about “Glee” here.

If TV wants to do a successful rendition of gays, it ought to look into a mini-drama on Jerry Sandusky of Penn State infamy. If done right, I think millions of Americans would be drawn to such a story about how a real gay behaved in the real world, not some slobering crapola about “cute gay couples” (that don’t actually exist in reality) or some such.
Hey Hollywood- as you consider new shows to replace these just cut, please for the love of humanity no more shows about cops or doctors.
Gay or otherwise.
I would offer this analysis...the History Channel is killing network TV show options. No weird shows, no gay characters, just plain historical themes. I suspect the networks are in desperation mode right now and trying to figure an angle out to trip up the situation. At present time, you could bring the Beverley Hillbillies, and actually have a four-star hit on your hands.
“The sheer number of characters who will no longer be on the air means diversity on television is once again at risk,” GLAAD national spokesman Wilson Cruz tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Following a season with the highest recorded number of LGBT characters, these cancellations mean networks have to make a concerted effort to ensure the 2013-2014 season truly reflects the diversity of their audience. With inclusive programs like Modern Family and Glee continuing to lead the ratings and collect praise from critics, it’s in a network’s best interest.”
There’s no mystery from which “diversity worship” derives. This statement could have been made by any number of American college deans. Their “liberally educated” progeny have disseminated across society.
Opposite? Opposite? New Normal’s Andrew Rannells (opposite Justin Bartha)
Damn! They aren’t “opposite”!
They are close up and hugging and making normal people puke!
That ain’t “opposite”!!!!

History channel is full of reality shows in prime time these days. I liked it a lot more when it was about history, although I watch Swamp People every week. Troy and Liz are my favorites.
Its a bit of a stretch to call their reality shows history.
Dropping of “gay” characters is a sign they are ready to move on to their next advocacy: child molesters.
This will take longer, but these folks are experts at mass psychology.
They will start out with an appealing older guy of the “weird uncle” type. He will get in a bit of trouble but the kids and the community will rally around him. He will claim that he is only trying to help the kids, and the kids will say they love to be with the guy. That will make people more sympathetic. after all, what harm does it do? And so on and so on...
In 10 years, there will be all kinds of these creeps in the media.
There aren’t enough gays in the U.S. to give MSNBC a ratings point.
Most of the people that really seem to want to see this crap are single women above the age of 20 that have some bizarre attraction to gay dudes, and horny single males hoping to see some lesbian “action” on TV. And even at that there still isn’t enough to stick around long enough to pretend like they honestly see that stuff as normal.
IMHO, Duck Dynasty is the funniest show on TV right now, and its ratings show it.
The humor is clean. And it's the only TV show I can remember in which most episodes end with the family around the dinner table, with one of the men saying grace.
Nice summary, and your program suggestion is going to leave a mark.
“Dropping of gay characters is a sign they are ready to move on to their next advocacy: child molesters.”
I fully expect a show on either HBO, Showtime or Cinemax to put one up in the next 2 years.
Some of their existing shows are already portraying children as “gay” or “transgendered”. So they are working on it.
nothing like pushing an agenda of the minorities to the majority. Worked out well for you didnt it! Just the name of one of the shows “the new noraml” is arrogance of the highest order. Nice to see America speak! We need to see more of this
Sodomy DOESN’T appeal to most Americans...it is being shoved down our throats.
They're already there.
"Gay" = Coprophagic Boy-rapers (CBRs)
