I doubt any military help would have stopped the initial attack. We should never have been there in the first place. The cardinal rule of diplomatic security is that you don’t go places where the host government cannot protect you.
That is obvious as is leaving the Embassy open after every other country left. That said, we had enough firepower to disperse that crowd in the area. Many reports initially said we had a C-130 circling and is why Thomas? was painting the targets.
The bottom line is we had the forces and need to know who told them to stand down?
