Conservative groups have rejected an Internal Revenue Service apology for unjustifiably scrutinizing tax-exempt conservative groups during the 2012 election cycle. The IRS apology has seemingly validated conservatives' fears of politically motivated regulation.
House Republican leaders, meanwhile, have vowed to investigate.
Lois Lerner, the director the IRS unit that oversees tax-exempt organizations, said that organizations had been given additional scrutiny if their applications included the words "Tea Party" or "patriot." The practice originated with "low-level" employees in Cincinnati, according to an Associated Press report.
In a press conference on Friday, Lerner called the actions of these employees "absolutely inappropriate."
"They didn't do it because of any political bias," Lerner said, adding that singling out groups with specific names was an ill-thought-out organizational "shortcut."
"It was an error in judgment and it wasn't appropriate but that's what they did," she said.
"We've now corrected these issues, and we don't expect that any of these will be repeated going forward."
Despite the apology, conservative groups are now seizing on the news, which they say proves their long-standing complaints of mistreatment by the IRS.
"President Obama must also apologize for his administration ignoring repeated complaints by these broad grassroots organizations of harassment by the IRS in 2012, and make concrete and transparent steps today to ensure this never happens again," said Jenny Beth Martin, national coordinator for Tea Party Patriots.
Tea Party Express founder Sal Russo told ABC News that his group, formed as a PAC, never heard from the IRS but did hear from smaller Tea-Party groups that complained of government scrutiny.

Next target:
Anti Obamacare groups.
They (the IRS and Federal government) have waged war on it’s citizens. It’s time we start pushing back. It’s us or them.
Hey, that happened a long time ago. What difference does it make?
What we have here is clear proof that it is time to replace the income tax with the FairTax and abolish the IRS!
Help us do that, please.

Question: When an organization like TeaParty is scrutinized does that mean that the individual members’ tax returns were given to the White House so they could be intimidated by the political hatchetmen AND the IRS auditors?
Nobody seems to have learned a thing....and, of course, the truth will out as to who ordered what, when and how.
Now that there'll be a DC official investigation of the harrassment things will get even more delicious because the "lower-level" employees will get a wonderful chance to rat out their superiors as they (the lower-caste rats), refuse to scamper under the bus of their own volition.
Bon appetit !!!

Obama gives us one outrage after another...
and then he jokes about it on TV. What kind of scum is in our White House?
My plan: Abolish the IRS completely.
The federal government sends a bill to each state for a tax amount based on the latest census. The states then figure out how to collect it. Eventually, given 50 states, the best, least tax collection practices, and most likely not to crush the economy will emerge.
Imagine if they’d only done it to organizations with “black” or “African American” or “Liberal” or “Resistance” or “Occupy” in the name.
Atty General would be down there right down, arrests, special investigators, breathtaking updates inserted into every news cast. . .
and rightly so.
They use the words “wrong” and “inappropriate.” Haven’t they heard of “illegal?”
If I don’t file my taxes, will they send me a letter saying it was inappropriate?
Let’s hang the bastiges!

Interesting concept, wintertime. The concept is new to me, and I’ll have to go think on it a bit, but I certainly like the idea of abolishing the IRS. And, the states would certainly regain a large measure of control over their own destiny.
HST, the FairTax also cripples the Fed — that is one reason I like it so much.

What I would like to see is a “document dump” from the groups that were paid special attention. Post copies of EVERTHING — full copies, no redacting names of the IRS “investigators.”
Shine a light on the cockroaches.
An apology w/o restitution or penalty. Maybe the IRS should be forced to accept apologies like this from taxpayers.
That hasn’t come out yet... but I wouldn’t put it past them... The press is starting to wake up - this might get interesting.
Apology -- for the harrasment and audit I got (and passed) after a few weeks after this...
(Angy "white"guys. LOL.)
...?
Where's that Apology?
