TRIPOLI, Libya, May 10 (UPI) — Britain announced Friday it is withdrawing some of its staff from its embassy in Libya in response to violence in Tripoli in recent weeks.
The Foreign Office said it was “temporarily withdrawing a small number of staff,” the BBC reported.
The embassy will remain “open as usual,” the ministry said. Those being sent home work in support positions at government ministries “which have been affected by recent developments.”
The ministry advised against all but essential travel to the capital and other parts of Libya.
A car bomb exploded outside the French embassy in Tripoli in April and heavily armed militias have besieged government buildings in the past month.

A LHA and a LPD 100 miles off the coast could take care of business in short order if they were fully outfitted.

Check my new tagline.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Maybe several dozen freepers with that tagline might have some impact.

NAS Sigonella, Sicily, is only half as far from Benghazi as Aviano.True. They could have put the F-16s on alert at Sigonella. Or, they could have them on alert at Aviano. Or they could have had a tanker or two on alert at Sigonella for any contingency. The tanker could have met them and refueled them on the way to Libya.
This wasn't rocket science. All it required was just a bit of planning and the deployment of a few aircraft.

I, too, question the timing.

It was mentioned during the hearings that Tripoli was worse than Benghazi in security readiness.

Obozos little grift in Benghazi has now caused so much instability that the jihadists have to take over from the “Arab Spring” freedom fighters who front the Libyan government.

Cartoonish nonsense. We have no rapid reaction forces in Europe or North Africa. We have no planes that can enter Libya because of surface to air missiles. And we can not risk the danger. This is what Bill Gates said today. Honestly.
