Detroit has a long history of making stuff cars, steel, even popcorn.
Now, the city is home to a manufacturing facility devoted to the production of an item not made at this scale in the U.S. for decades: Wristwatches.
A Dallas-based company has set up a production line for its Shinola brand of watches in Detroit.
Shinola officials say their watch production target for this year is 45,000, to be sold online, at flagship stores in Detroit and New York and at fashion and jewelry retailers and department stores around the country.

Excellent advice. You would be surprised by how many employers notice such things.
Shinola, shoe polish wrist watches? Will it leave a stain on your wrist? Will it take a spit shine? Is it the same color as s***?
Inquiring minds want to know!
At that price point, they should offer a good automatic movement instead of a quartz one.
Nice retro looking watches. I hope they do well.
What will happen is that:
1. They will get a name as a hand built watch.
2. Their sales will increase.
3. The Money guy will demand increased production.
4. They will build bigger/more facilities.
5. Labor Union(s) will get involved.
Leading to;
6. Machine made in China (or worse).
so the locals will have something to pawn at Les Gold’s...
Bitter ugly union organizing attempt commencing in 3.....2.....1......
Decent shoes are another little detail I’ve heard that potential employers notice.
Shinola? What a crazy name. It reminds me of a phrase that begins with another s word.....
Correct. Generally, dress like a competent adult.
How much did they pay an Ad agency to come up with that name?
As a refugee from the suburbs “where the unemployment rate is not awful” I beg to disagree. I was a Cub Scout leader and at one point, every single parent in our den was unemployed. Is 100% not awful?
But the want to be employed unemployment rate is probably about the same. People who have been feeding off the government for several generations have no concept of employment.
How many of them are willing to move their family 600 miles for work? How many will do multiple jobs to get off of welfare?
I really like to see that there are some small successes and I wish Shinola Watch Co. all the best. I hope they succeed beyond their wildest imagination but your argument just doesn’t fly.
How does Stephenson Highway look? The last time I drove down it was the day I lost my job. Basically nothing but empty 25,000 sq. ft. industrial buildings.
Wiki didn’t have much either.
Curious why some investor in Deeetriot wanted the name to put on watches and bikes. Guess they REALLY didn’t know shit from Shinola.
Shinola watches? Really? How do they tell them from $hit?
More good business news from Detroit.
The private sector could be the salvation of Detroit and smart conservatives should get on board.
“Shinola is a brand name!!!????”
I was thinking the same thing! Thought for sure this was from The Onion!
