In 1536 the Huguenots signed a manifesto saying that they did not want to take up arms against their own king and country but they were forced to in order to defend themselves and to protect their families...

the descendents of the Huguenots who came to the US were influencial in the writng of the Constitution ..

especially the Bill of Rights...

1st Amendment Freedom of religion, speech, press

2nd Amendment The right to keep and bear arms

3rd Amendment Quartering of soldiers in private houses

4th Amendment Search and seizures, to be secure in persons, houses, papers etc

etc

>http://www.pbs.org/godinamerica/people/john-leland.html ~ this guy among them ~ the PBS write-up is selective. John's own support of the Primitive Baptist Church in its battle against Sunday School was not consistent with the beliefs of the Christian Church movement ~ which invented Sunday School. Probably explains why there are Primitive Baptists still around. Abe Lincoln's parents belonged to that group.

He could read, write and speak in many languages, among which was ancient Greek. He translated many ancient church songs/chants and composed more modern music or them. He invented African-American Gospel Music along the way ~ and for the most part earned his living selling copies of his music compositions.

He is counted among the founders of the Abolitionist Movement ~ John didn't find the world too big to fight and win ~ he also had a large family.
