A travel warning circulated by the State Department this afternoon warns American citizens against all travel to Benghazi and elsewhere in Libya, including the entire southern region of the country.
The Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the risks of traveling to Libya and strongly advises against all but essential travel to Tripoli and all travel to Benghazi, Bani Walid, and southern Libya, the warning says, including border areas and the regions of Sabha and Kufra. Because of ongoing instability and violence, the Departments ability to provide consular services to U.S. citizens in these regions of Libya is extremely limited.
The Department notice indicated that the security situation in Libya remains unpredictable, citing civil unrest and demonstrations occuring throughout the country.
The warning comes the day after a House Oversight Committee hearing on the terrorist attack that killed four Americans in Benghazi on September 11, 2012, during which whistleblowers alleged that the Obama adminsitration misled Americans about the nature of the attack and attempted to silence witnesses in order to protect its reputation.
Must be some people in Benghazi who want to talk about what happened last Sept.
Way to ruin everything! And I have a non-refundable ticket on Air Libya.
That horse done already left the barn.
I don’t need to be warned—I am not going to Mexico as well! I think one would be safer in Cuba!
Heck, it’s only been 8 months since the last TERRORIST ATTACK that killed 4 Americans in that pigsty. I guess better late than never, huh Obama lama ding dong.
I smell a ‘wag the dog’ a commin’ just ‘round the bend.
Guess I'll go to China instead where their scientists just made 127 new hybrid strains of flu, 5 deadly ones that now pass from human to human. Yes, I'll go there.
“The warning comes the day after a House Oversight Committee hearing on the terrorist attack that killed four Americans in Benghai.”
Those damn Republicans, always stirring the pot.....look what they have done now.
Someone’s idea of a joke.
This is strictly a defensive measure to avoid absolute ridicule had State not posted the advisory given yesterday’s testimony.
It’s that internet film again!!
WHAT? Don’t go to Benghazi?? Our government really is the best and brightest. I would have never thought that Benghazi was dangerous. They are always 3 moves ahead of everyone me. Frustrating./
Lucky we’re booked for the Gaza Strip for this summers getaway .
Is the Sudan still OK? Yemen?
CRAP... and I was all planning on attending a “demonstration” outside the U.S. Embassy there next week. Guess I will have to head to D.C. instead.
I met this really hot chick on the Internet, a ‘Dirty Gertie from Bizerte’.
Of course all I could see were eyes, since she was dressed in black sack.
Shirley, that 3rd world hell-hole next door, Tunisia, is safe to visit.
I couldn’t help but laugh when I got on a United Flight last year and the United fluff magazine in the seat back had a cover story titled “3 Perfect Days in Tel Aviv”... and this was the day of the rocket attacks on Tel Aviv and IDF retaliation strikes on the West Bank.
