NEW YORK (AP) — In a significant victory amid a push for paid sick time laws around the country, city lawmakers voted Wednesday to make businesses provide the benefit to an estimated 1 million workers who don't have it now.
Saying they hoped that requiring sick leave in the nation's largest metropolis would set an example, City Council members positioned New York to become the most populous place to approve such a law during a campaign that has scored several victories but also a number of defeats. A mayoral veto is expected, but so is an override.

So, when this “takes off,” several hundreds of thousands of “workers” every day will stay at home. Doesn’t matter the reason, they will stay at home given a choice between working and sleeping in. ..
Who is going to do their jobs in that city?

I wish I had the moving van concession. Just another really good excuse for businesses to bolt the city. The city council should book a tour of Detroit so they get used to what is coming next.
I could see having some pool of days where if you actually checked into a hospital for an operation....you had two to three weeks of paid leave sitting there. The idea of poor management over this, and having six employees on a team that take fifteen days a year each of sick leave, and six employees who take one day a year each for sick leave....you as the manager will eventually figure out you’ve got a problem.
Well, it will be easier to implement when everybody is part time.
What -- the employees of manufacturing firms don't get sick? LOL.
I hope NYC passes this. Just one more nail in the coffin of that place.
