Ezekiel Emanuel, a noted oncologist, has helped advise the Obama administration in its effort to create an economic system larger than Frances economy to distribute health care services to over 300 million people. Together, those facts encapsulate the essence of our federal government: hopelessly overextended, devoid of caution and chock full of hubris. If that isnt succinct enough to signal the coming disaster that will be Obamacare, then Emanuels recent column in the Wall Street Journal should tip the balance.
Coincidentally, the column was about me, or, more appropriately, about a class of the peasantry to which Doctor Emanuel has assigned me. That group, which he calls Young Invincibles, consists of American men under the age of 35 who havent purchased health insurance and, worse, dont think they should.
In a refreshingly honest appraisal, Emanuel admits that Obamacare will virtually self-destruct if my demographic doesnt come to its senses. The program depends on the full participation of the American citizenry.....

Men under 35 don’t need health insurance. Sure there is a rare exception but to have millions of young men throw away a billlion plus dollars for nothing is insane. I didn’t have it, didn’t need it. And neither did any of my friends or family at that age.
I view this theory as very flawed.
I lurk on some forums where there are a lot of 20-somethings.
(trying to plant some seeds of common sense)
STDs are rampant in that group, although incredibly under-reported by the MSM.
They actually care very much about health benefits.
And a significant reason why this was a winning factor with this group in the election.
Back in the 60s when I was that age, nobody gave a rip about “health insurance”.
Does this imply that young men are healthier than young women and that women need to be provided monetary assistance from (gasp) men for health?
What about overseas Americans? Can they get insurance and if they do not, are they taxed?
Are illegal immigrants paying into the system and if not, why not? How does an illegal immigrant file a US income tax return?
In this so-called “recovery,” how many 18-29 yo men living in the USA actually have jobs that pay enough that allow them to be able to afford health insurance?
My wife and I paid 17,000dlrs last year for healthcare (premiums + deductables). And are healthy save for the spousal unit getting a cataract fixed last year.
We are about to drop health care altogether (already did dental) if premiums continue to go up. They did 25% January 1. We will gamble the
“system” will find some equilibrium that we can afford.
2.5 years from Medicare and holding my breath!
TOTALITARIANCARE BUMP!
That is why Obamacare fines it out of you as a tax if you don’t have a plan. Either way they get you.
If you are so poor as to not have anything to worry about, then you would be on welfare anyway.
The whole point is that he is going to be required to buy insurance whether he wants to or not.
At first the fine may be cheaper than buying the insurance, but if Massachusetts is any predictor, then the fines will increase until pretty much everyone joins.
This guy should just save us the time of hoping that he may one day get a clue and just become a liberal right now.
Either that or a naive shill for hedge funds.
Post o’ the Evening. Excellent.
Ezekiel Emmanuel is Rahm’s brother.
Ditto.
It seems to me like most people, particularly guys, could do quite well with just a high deductible hospital plan to cover anything major.
Neither my mom or my dad had any health coverage, even though they both worked full-time all their lives, until they were old enough to qualify for Medicare.
I still contend that people, regardless of their age, should be able to pick and choose what they want covered and what they don’t. But it always seems to get back to the issue of my having to pay for someone else’s illness. I really have never felt any compulsion to be my brother’s keeper, just my immediate family members and even then, only up to a point.

Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.
I been saying this since its been passed. The mandate fine is a joke.
Young and healthy have no reason to comply. That will make it fail.
However, don’t expect voters to agree to give up free stuff(health care) . They very well may just demand more.
“STDs are rampant in that group ... They actually care very much about health benefits.”
Obamacare mandates a one-size-all-covers-everything-conceiable policy that will probably cost an individual $5,000 a year. Within a couple of years that will probably double. Wouldn’t they find it cheaper to pay $50.00 for the antibiotics to treat these STDs than pay 5-10K a year when they’re otherwise healthy?
>> Men under 35 dont need health insurance.
Catastrophic they should have, and if family, insured mandatory for the wife/kids.
“It seems to me like most people, particularly guys, could do quite well with just a high deductible hospital plan to cover anything major.”
Obamacare outlaws all such plans, and mandates that only a very expensive, covers-everything-plan will be legal.
I know, I know. I was just whining.
