The federal government has sent a letter to a personal defense advocate demanding he remove the 3D blueprints for a functional homemade gun from his website.
Cody Wilson of Defense Distributed, which hosts designs for 3D-printable firearms and firearm components, has complied with the government order to remove the files.
DEFCAD files are being removed from public access at the request of the US Department of Defense Trade Controls, reads the banner at the top of his website defcad.org. Until further notice, the United States government claims control of the information.
Defense Distributed's Twitter account lays blame on Secretary of State John Kerry:
Defense Distributed @DefDist
#DEFCAD has gone dark at the request of the Department of Defense Trade Controls. Take it up with the Secretary of State.

Scary! Yeah, I keep my toes out of the way, using my engine hoist to move machinery around. My hoist has a pneumatic hose connection with a remote control trigger. Makes it safer to operate at a distance. These 3D printers mean no more mangled fingers.
The law of superior firepower.
Certainly not by any legitimate Constitutional authority.

Double win!”
Post of the day! ROFL
Hehehehe. That gif made my night!
Cheers!
If you guys want to scare the hell out of the government:
1. Print a Liberator
2. Go to a McDonalds or place with free wifi, get an anonymous youtube account, u/l a video of you shooting it
3. ???
4. PROFIT!
I recall an account of POW’s in a Japanese prison who built a lathe out of a piston and some other scrap they scrounged. Had to take it apart when they were moved. They occasionally made parts for the Japanese to trade for food and other necessities as well as parts for their own use. It had a swing of around 10 inches.
End # 52 should be 58.
:D
Yup, the cat is outta the bag...
MEOW!!!!!
:D
The .jpg drawing is not of the CAD item as far as I can tell from screen shots, dunno what it is there for. Looks like a patent drawing.
Thanks. It’ll be fun to check out the guy’s work. Been a “CAD jockey” for years; since back when doing anything in 3D was just a total pipe dream. Today’s 3D modeling software just flat rocks.
Well, if demand for 3d printers suddenly increases, then the components you have to source will go up. steppers and controllers, threaded rod, etc. Of course all of those are pretty cheap to manufacture.
I've seen one of those in person and OCR'ed it for fun...
Ignore the enclosed Chinese stuff. It’s the .stl files (STereoLithography files) in the other folder you want.
Most CAD programs can read the .stl format.
Cheers!
BUMP for later
You know, you could take the indivitual files, uuencode them and post them right here, if they weren't too large.
Or ascii encode them with PGP, which would probably be better and more apropos anyway.
B. Search for Liberator_First_3D_Printable_gun and/or DefDistDEFCADMEGAPACKV4.2 (all defense distributed files pack). (won't be hard to find thousands have popped up overnight)
C. Download
D. Enjoy making Obama cry...
