Somebody learned about Islam different than I did. In six years in Saudi the only thing we could tell somebody after a friend or relative died was “may Allah have mercy on their soul.” That’s the only thing they’re allowed to tell each other. Anything else was getting too personal. There are no wakes, viewings, memorial services, or mourning periods. After that they were never mentioned again as the body was considered just a shell and their soul was in a better place. Whoever sold the DOD the idea that they treat death the same way we do is yanking their chain.
