Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, a newly elected Republican with a penchant for making headlines, filed an amendment that would bar undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States from ever earning citizenship.
There are an estimated 11 million people living in the country illegally, and a bipartisan immigration reform measure would create a pathway to citizenship over the course of 13 years by requiring those people to pay penalties and back taxes, as well as learn English. Conservatives opposed to reform decry the path as amnesty, but Democrats say they will not support reform that does not cope with the immigrants already living in the U.S.
Cruz also filed amendments that he says would "strengthen border security measures; reform the high-skilled temporary worker program; modernize, streamline and expand legal immigration; and prohibit federal, state or local entitlement benefits for those here illegally."(continued)

No way, Jose.
This Senator is drawing clear lines. God bless Sen Cruz!!
His penchant, MSM, is logic and fairness.
And fairness is a word which you MSM dorks seem to misuse regularly.
If you want to highlight someone with a penchant for making headlines, check out YOUR ill-educated lying piece of excrement president, or Ms Hillabeast...two pseudo-intellectual losers who have no positive accomplishments to ther names whatsoever...but somehow are always positively displayed in your “news”.
Has this guy written a book in Spanish yet?
But the DEMOCRATS need them to be citizens. Even if you had to give them handouts in perpetuity, that would be better than citizenship, because with citizenship, the Anti-Rights (except any kind of kinky sex) Democrats would never lose another national election.
Geez, I hope Cruz is both eligible and lacks any significant skeletons in his closet. I’d love to vote for him for President.
Dunno. Saw him once in an airport, though. Nice enough guy to talk to.
He has my vote. Someone who actually represents us, unlike the posseurs who claim to.
Go home and do it right or forever forfeit your chance to become a citizen.<<
BINGO!...Makes too much sense!!
POST OF THE DAY!
Sounds reasonable.
I don’t know whats so hard about securing the border and enforcing current law.
Cut off the inflow and the problem solves itself over a decade or two. No mass deportations required, just shut off the spigot and let nature take its course.
I agree that illegals should not have a “path to citizenship” other than, possibly, military service.
I’ll see Cruz’s amendment on the 11 (yes, we all know it’s more) million here now and raise it to make it permanent for any future illegals. Take away the political angle in this corrupt bill and there’s no reason to do anything but enforce the current law.
Sadly it would take an amendment to our Consitution to stop illegals from dropping anchor babies and then raping taxpayers for benefits
Its a much truer definition of the oft misused term “Amnesty”.
In the democrat/RINO world “Amnesty” means keep breaking the law and we’ll look the other way.
No path to citizenship for illegals and no voting rights for these lawbreakers.
Cruz makes Texas proud.
Exactly correct policy IF you are thinking about what’s right for America.
You can’t possibly stop illegal immigration by rewarding 30 million illegal immigrants.
They should have to leave if they have any interest in applying for legal entry.
It is given to those here illegally who have met the rest of the "amnesty" requirements. It allows permanent residency, but a Permanent Guest Worker cannot apply for citizenship just as one here on a Tourist or Student Visa cannot apply for US Citizenship.
If they want citizenship, they must surrender their Permanent Guest Worker visa, return to their country of citizenship, and apply for Permanent Residency like everybody else.
Yow.
Now that’s the way to take the fight to them: see you one and raise you two.
For those of you from the Cruz staff reading this, here’s another little point that never gets made: if Amnesty does pass, will the illegals who are amnestied have to allocute to the original crime?
If so, will they have a record?
If you were a Citizen you would have that. Even if you weren’t punished (allocution is usually a public admission of sin linked to a grant of leniency).
In what upside down world would citizens have more serious consequences for their actions then illegal aliens?
Will there be a general amnesty for everyone in the United States convicted of a federal misdemeanor at some point in their lives once this Mother of All Amnesties passes?
If not, why not? Do illegal aliens constitute a Special Class of Privileged Persons, able to do certain federal crimes at will with no risk of any consequence?
Good luck Ted.... I’m all for it forever.
