Lauryn Hill Blames Slavery as She's Jailed for $500,000 Unpaid Tax Bill

Reclusive soul superstar Lauryn Hill has been jailed over an enormous unpaid tax bill.

Fugees singer Hill, 37, was sentenced to three months' jail followed by three months' home confinement for failing to pay $500,000 to the taxman in the United States.

Hill claimed the sum was outstanding because she had "withdrawn from society" after alleged threats against her family.

She was imprisoned after failing to pay the amount within the stipulated two-week timeframe.

During her trial, Hill was ordered by the judge in Newark, New Jersey to undergo counselling because of her conspiracy theories - including that artists are being oppressed by a plot involving the military and media.

Hill pleaded guilty to charges of tax evasion last year. Her lawyers said she had paid more than $970,000 of an outstanding tax bill which amounted to more than $2m.

Um, is this the kind of slavery where you don’t work and get showered by millions of dollars? The horror.

Did slaves pay taxes? I didn’t think so.

There was a rumor about Hill that she said she’d rather her children starve than to have white people buy her albums. It was not on video so people dismissed it as a lie. Now I’m not so sure. She is consumed with race hatred and likely mentally ill.

That will easily be used against Tea Party people because of their conspiracy theory that government is the ruin of us all.

Taxes are fine so long as they are assessed equally. A government with unlimited power to tax unfavored behaviors is a tyrannical government of unlimited and unenumerated power.

Lauryn Hill was one of the worst concerts I've ever seen. She really was not worth the ticket price and still she was two hours late. People were booing after every song. n/s

Her version of “Killing Me Softly” sucked compared to Roberta Flack’s. A lot of “Uh, yeah” and stuff.

I agree that government needs funding for the most basic constitutionally authorized functions but taxes on necessities are obviously slavery. This is why there are no sales taxes on food (at least here, for now).

The most evil tax is the property tax. It is basically a tax to have shelter over your head (a basic necessity). Everyone not homeless is required to pay the property tax or pay rent to a landlord who pays the tax. The tax in my area seems to be arbitrarily calculated based on budget shortfalls and rises even when property value declines. Absolutely disgusting.

If decent people were in charge, everyone would be exempt from property taxes on their primary home since it is a bare necessity.

With the property tax, income itself becomes a necessity because it is required for shelter. You can grow your own food and have your own well without paying but you MUST have income for shelter. Of course the income is taxed HEAVILY.

F this corrupt tyrannical government. The collapse can’t come soon enough!

She told the court: "I am a child of former slaves who had a system imposed on them. I had an economic system imposed on me."

Emancipation Proclamation 1863

Born May 26, 1975 (age 37)

Sylvester Magee (May 29, 1841? – October 15, 1971)[1] was an African American who allegedly was the last former slave in the United States. His claim is undocumented and controversial. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvester_Magee

I’m surprised Wyclef Jean didn’t bail her out with all of the fraud money that went to his Haitian “charities.”
