CLEVELAND (AP) — The woman's voice was frantic and breathless, and she was choking back tears. "Help me. I'm Amanda Berry," she told a 911 dispatcher. "I've been kidnapped and I've been missing for 10 years and I'm, I'm here, I'm free now."
Those words led police to a house near downtown Cleveland where Berry and two other women who vanished a decade ago were found Monday, elating family members and friends who had longed to see them again.
Authorities later arrested three brothers. They released no names and gave no information about them or what charges they might face.
City officials have scheduled a news conference for Tuesday morning.
Police Chief Michael McGrath said he thinks Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight were tied up at the house and held there since they were in their teens or early 20s.
A 6-year-old also was found in the home, but police didn't disclose the child's identity or relationship to anyone in the home. The women appeared to be in good health and were taken to a hospital to be evaluated and be reunited with relatives.
The women's escape and rescue began with a frenzied cry for help.
A neighbor, Charles Ramsey, told WEWS-TV he heard screaming Monday and saw Berry, whom he didn't recognize, at a door that would open only enough to fit a hand through. He said she was trying desperately to get outside and pleaded for help to reach police.

Agree with posts that the dispatcher was cold. I understand “protocol” too but you could hear the cry for help, for reassurance, for comfort....not wanting to let go of someone from the outside world.
The dispatcher might want to think about this for a bit and learn from it. What’s done is done, but it is too bad Amanda got this dispatcher. I’ve heard 911 replays before where the dispatchers are at least human.

For some things there have to be priorities, and this should have set off her alarm bell.
Did you ever hear the joke about the guy who called in and said Burglars were breaking into his shed?
He called 3 times and got no response.
The 4th time he called he told the dispatcher not to hurry about sending the cops he had just shot and killed the two burglars.
Within 30 seconds 5 police cars slid up to his door.
Just kidnapping and raping American girls because they are unhappy “immigrants,” doncha know. That neighborhood in Cleveland should be swept by ICE. It’s no telling who they’d find there.

I haven’t wanted to be too public about my shock on the call. I know the operator’s job is horrible, burn out must be overwhelming and you could hear it in the operator’s voice. I commented to my son, when the operator heard her terror, they should have been a bit more calming. Maybe even offer to stay on the phone with her. Something.
If you notice, none of the news media has commented on the 911 call. If it were handled more compassionately, you know that they would be raving about it.
And China has the largest standing army in the world. Think about that for a minute.
Mr. Ramsey saved the day, and based on his interviews is obviously a very smart guy.
Just doing the kidnapping and raping Americans won’t do.
Also now “peaceful” Iceland was once the base of particularly viscous Nordic raiders. The beauty of its women is said to be the result of their raiding habits. They would seize the most beautiful women and return them to Iceland.
It sounded like she said “he’s hispanic”. She gave his name as “DeCastro”, or something like that. So, maybe you’re right.

North Korea could nuke Seoul and Good Morning America would break into coverage of that for their "exclusive interview" with one of the kidnapped women.
He should have stayed on the phone with her.

That neighborhood is literally foreign held territory. The laws of the United States do not apply and Western Civilization does not exist there. The most galling thing about it is that its inhabitants are protected and sustained by the Federal government. It just goes to show who the Federal government really represents.
