I’ll bet we had an armed drone there. I don’t believe reports that there wasn’t one. Can a drone respond to a ‘lazed’ target? I believe Doherty or Woods were anticipating a response.
They were setup to be captured but they didn’t count on them defending themselves...

i've not seen any report where the stennis carrier group was at the time... nor the location of the closest base under control of Gen. Hamm.
