In a matter of days, North Carolina high school student David Cole Withrows situation has changed dramatically. For one, Liberty University announced Thursday that it will extend a scholarship to Withrow after he was suspended and arrested for accidentally leaving a shotgun in his pick-up truck parked in the school lot.

How do you not notice a shotgun in the cab with you when you get in and drive to school?...and then notice it?
He actually went to the office to call home, which means he was probably following the rule about no cell phones in school. Good kid. Glad to see this happen for him, and Jerry Falwell is a good guy, too.
How do you not notice a shotgun in the cab with you when you get in and drive to school?...Put it behind the seat after shooting it the day before.
and then notice it?Spot it behind the seat when you grab your books.
Just because you can't think of a way doesn't mean it isn't possible.
Of course not thanks for thinking of a way
Sprout?? (If you are who I think you are, you’ll understand this...)
Not a shooter, are you? Shotguns break down into two halves and fit neatly into fairly small case. Not a whole lot larger than a briefcase. Easy to forget if it’s behind the seat. You need to spend more time at the range.
Parents and students in this school should confront the local district attorney and absolutely insist that he/she investigate the fact that two staff members brought guns into the school and weren’t charged. Why didn’t the school report a felony to the police? Heads should roll on this one.
There has to be some paperwork somewhere and it can be subpoenaed, and it doesn’t have anything to do with the union.
If the district attorney isn’t interested in investigating, he should drop the felony charges against this kid.
Yeah I shoot a lot and I’ve never left any weapon in my car or not remembered I had one in the car
I have been a competitive shooter and often keep my target rifles in the car as long as they are secured in their cases and the car's locked.
I hate know-it-alls that really have no idea what the 2nd amendment means or profess to be conservatives without understanding freedom.
The young man in this case was a competitive shooter and tried to do things right but he was hammered by leftists with an agenda to criminalize firearms. You fell right into their trap.
Right, you have no idea what you are talking about.
I would never leave my firearms in my vehicle, it’s too easy to break into a car. Mine are at home in the safe when I am not using them.
I give this kid the benefit of the doubt and hope that his awareness of his surroundings gets better after this incident.
I have fallen into no trap. I think it’s irresponsible to not be aware of the location of all your weapons.
“Right, you have no idea what you are talking about.”
Right, because you are the perfect human being that NEVER makes any mistakes. Yep, perfect.
Just for chuckles, I introduce whether one lives in a secure area or not.
Frankly if you’re in an area where cars get broken into, that is one thing.
However in a lot of the country, it’s not. It really sort of depends.
Not perfect, but smart enough to know that I am unable to tell people what they are or aren’t over an anonymous internet forum.
...but really close to perfect
Of course it does, but that is no excuse for not remembering where your weapons are...that just goes with being a responsible gun owner, doesn’t it?
Nope.
That kind of thinking makes you an effective accomplice of the leftists who want all of us to lose our right to bear arms.
I was trying to find room for common ground here.
We come from a much less constricted history.
That was not all bad. That was my only point.
Not taking issue with what you said at all.
I never said nor thought that.
We are supposed to set examples for the young, especially when it comes to weapons. If this had just been swept under a rug, what would he have learned?
You know, if this had been someone that we here at FR didn’t like or approve of, and that person had forgotten he had a weapon in his vehicle, we would have jumped all over him. There are examples of that over the years.
Yeah I know.
:D Peace.
