In a matter of days, North Carolina high school student David Cole Withrows situation has changed dramatically. For one, Liberty University announced Thursday that it will extend a scholarship to Withrow after he was suspended and arrested for accidentally leaving a shotgun in his pick-up truck parked in the school lot.

The largest Christian University in the world at that.
That’s a great offer, but if that is his girlfriend he is WAY too close according to Liberty standards, isn’t he?

Johnston County Superintendent Ed Croom reviewed the case, Wood said, and agreed to forgo the recommended 365-day suspension and to allow Withrow to finish out his high school career, beginning May 13, at an alternative school.....
Withrow’s even received scholarship offers from Harding University in Searcy, Ark., and Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
“We think he is a victim of a system that is a little bit, maybe, too overly sensitive to certain things,” Liberty Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. said. “There has to be room for honest mistakes, and right now, I don’t think the law does that.”
end snips
That is his sister who has graduated from Liberty.....
This was nice of Liberty but posted yesterday here.
Awesome! Didn’t catch that.
The high school lost a great student, tough luck for them.
Sorry, a day late..... I did a search but did find anything. Besides good news is in short supply
Highschools aren’t interested in great students.
No worries. I have posted things that were previously posted that did not show up also. But, you are right, little good news these days, we need all we can get. But, it was here yesterday somewhere as I read it here then.

I was at the laundromat today, and they had Fox News on the TV. Megyn Kelly was talking about this. The kid pulled into the school parking lot, realized he’d left his skeet rifle in the vehicle, went to the office and called his mother to have her come to retrieve it. The Principal or Vice Principal overheard him, called the cops, and the rest is history. She also mentioned that two teachers have done the same thing, but they were only suspended for 3 days and not charged with any crime. It figures. The teachers belong to a union and are given preferential treatment, and a pass. The kid has the book thrown at him. Hope they sue.
When we moved back to this area back in 1983, I took my oldest son to the area school to register him for his senior year. The first thing the Principal asked me was if he played any sports. He could have cared less if he was a good student.
The President of Liberity U spoke on the Glenn Beck show today. Sounded like he and Glenn were very close.
Hmmmm....Liberty University has quite a few rules. We’ll see what happens when he forgets those rules, too. :)
Interesting that the Vice Principal was caught with a gun on campus and nothing happened to him. Vice Principals usually deal with all discipline issues, so it’s likely that he was alerted to this incident even before the cops were called. How interesting would that be...
I had a physics teacher put my graduation at risk because I missed two weeks of school competing in Europe with the US Shooting Team. Fortunately, I had another teacher give me an extra credit for a report of my travel in her class. I managed to graduate, skipped the ceremony, and reported to Annapolis three weeks later.
I think this whole thing stinks. It should never have gone this far. The schools in this country are destroying our children. But. He violated his OWN message.
A day's suspension would have been enough. What they did was nothing short of a display of fascism.
I am glad he got this scholarship.
So how is leaving your unloaded shotgun in its case in your secured vehicle unsafe?
