A man thwarted an armed robbery early Saturday morning when he disarmed his assailant of a shotgun, then broke the windshield of his assailant's car, according to New Orleans police.
About 5:05 a.m., the man was walking in the 1900 block of Burgundy Street when he was approached from behind by a man wielding a shotgun. The gunman pointed the weapon at the man's face and ordered him to turn over his money.
Video released by police shows the man pausing for a moment, then quickly disarming the gunman and chasing him down the street.
Moments later, the man was approached by two men in a black, four-door sedan. The driver of the car said, "Give me my gun back and I'll give you your phone that you dropped," according to police.
The man used the shotgun that he was still holding to break the rear window of the car, and the men sped away on Frenchmen Street, turning onto St. Claude Avenue, police said.
The man with the gun was described as about 16 to 20 years old, 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black hat and a black T-shirt, police said.
Police are investigating a similar incident that occurred just around the corner, in the 800 block of Touro Street, on Friday about 12:30 a.m.

For later.
I wonder if he’s military or former military?
Wait. My keen tactical sense tells me there may be something wrong with that transaction. What to do, what to do...
I think I’d have used the opportunity for an upgrade. “No way. Go steal me a new iPhone and we’ll talk.”
My thinking also. He must have experience under his belt. A similar move can disarm someone with a handgun held near the stomach area. Use the left hand to force the held gun to the stomach, reach in from above with the right hand, rotate the handgun out which can break the trigger finger, and pull gun away. If it goes off, it hits the perp. This fellow was clearly prepared against the black perp.
