DAMASCUS, Syria, April 28 (UPI) -- The Free Syrian Army says Israeli air force jets flew over President Bashar Assad's palace and bombed a chemical weapons site near Damascus, Maariv reported.
The report said the Israeli jets entered Syria's airspace close to 6 a.m Saturday and flew over Assad's palace in Damascus and other security facilities before striking a chemical weapons compound near the city.
The Hebrew language daily said a Syrian army air defense battery positioned in the city fired at the Israeli jets that left Syria's airspace unscathed. FSA rebels posted a video showing smoke rising up from the headquarters for chemical weapons. There were no reports of the extent of damage or casualties.
Neither Damascus or Jerusalem responded to the report.

So much for the Russkies. I heard they were threatening the U.S. and our allies against bombing Syria, and had taken measures to aid and abet the Syrians in taking out our jets.
This takes the pressure off of 0bama to intervene on either side.
Poor Obama. I’m sure he had his heart set on Al Qaeda getting a hold of those chemical weapons.

Yes: Obama wanted the FSA in control of these chemical weapons so they could use them against Israel.
When things get too hot the Israelis do what is best for them. Iran should take notice, They have it coming to them too
You have to consider that Russia and Israel are not enemies. Far from that. I am not aware of any Israeli or US airplanes shot down over Syria. One Turkish airplane was shot down, IIRC, but that's their own murky business.
I think Russia does have an interest in Syria; however it doesn't have any interest in Syria that is out of control. Russia also doesn't indicate that it will do anything to actively intervene.
Destruction of chemical weapons facilities is not a bad thing for, actually, everyone except AQ. Assad is afraid to use these weapons, for a good reason. But he has no means to protect them. AQ is ready and very much willing to use chemical weapons against everyone - so they must be denied that. Chemical weapons are not valuable in this conflict; they are just a huge liability. (They are a liability for any country that owns them, actually - that's why they are being gradually destroyed.)
Without the chemical weapons around Obama has no more reason to be concerned with Syria.
Now then, there's this problem with McCain. This is the second time in the last ten years when he has advocated arming Islamofascist forces with a record of killing Christians.

Believe it or not, a lot of terrorists throughout history have either been trained by the KGB or the FSB. They are indeed close allies to Iran and Syria. One should not get confused with what Russia says and does publicly, or what their short term goals seem to be, as their long term goals seldom change.

Thanks, I will check some sources, I know many had eyes on this site and did not want it to fall. I am sure with all the attacks today it became important to make sure these weapons were eliminated.

Thank you for contacting me regarding the United States’ policy toward Syria. I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this matter.
On March 18, 2011, the Syrian people commenced widespread and peaceful protests against President Bashar al-Assad and his regime. Subsequently, President Assad and his government forces launched a violent response. According to the United Nations, as of January 2, 2013, more than 60,000 Syrians have been killed. The violent oppression by the Assad regime continues unabated, with the regime failing to deliver promised reforms and instead utilizing overwhelming force against the protestors. Since August 2011, President Obama has called for Assad’s resignation, supporting United Nations Security Council action to facilitate his removal. Yet to date, the Security Council has been deadlocked due to obstruction by Russia and China.
I have pressed the Obama Administration to end all U.S. government business dealings with Rosoboronexport—the Russian state-owned arms broker that facilitates the Russian Federation’s arms transfers to Syria. I am deeply troubled that the U.S. Army continued to do business with Rosoboronexport, purchasing dozens of dual-use Mi-17 helicopters for the Afghan military, as the atrocities in Syria have continued. It is unconscionable that U.S. taxpayers would be forced to pay for a contract with a Russian firm that is simultaneously enabling the Assad regime to murder its own people. Because the Obama Administration ignored my requests, I offered Senate Amendment 3260 to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013 (FY13 NDAA; P.L. 112-239), which prohibits the use of funding for the U.S. government to enter into any further contracts or business agreements with Rosoboronexport. I am pleased that this provision was included in the final version of the FY13 NDAA, as signed into law on January 2, 2013.
Furthermore, during the 112th Congress, I was proud to cosponsor Senate Resolution 370 (S.Res. 370), which would have condemned the ongoing and systematic human rights violations conducted by Syrian authorities and called on Assad to step down from power. Additionally, this resolution would have called on President Obama to develop a plan to identify weapons stockpiles in Syria and prevent their proliferation, as well as urge the international community to support a post-Assad democratic government.
I also cosponsored Senate Bill 2224 (S. 2224), which would have directed the President to submit three reports to Congress to assess all Syrian opposition groups; assess the size and security of weapons stockpiles in Syria; and describe support provided to opposition political forces in Syria. S. 2224 was passed by the Senate by unanimous consent on May 9, 2012, and referred to the House of Representatives for further consideration. Although S.Res. 370 and S. 2224 were not enacted prior to the adjournment of the 112th Congress, you may be certain that I will keep your views in mind as relevant legislation is considered during the 113th Congress.
The people of Syria have demonstrated a hunger for freedom, and the United States has a solemn duty to support their democratic aspirations. So, tell us, why does Cornyn want the US to ally itself to the side that will murder all the Christians in Syria?
Guess he is dumb enough to think they are freedom fighters.
Simply wanted you to know what he wrote me. I sent him an email complaining about Obozo’s Arab Spring and what it meant.
Guess he did not get the point.
He is trying to look conservative but it is not his true nature.
I think he must really know that the opposition in Syria is largely al-Qaeda. But he may not. Obozo certainly does.
