Regardless if he did or didn’t pull over to text - the idea of consciously leaving his phone in the car with the forethought of it being used to locate the car, is quite a stretch.

C’mon, the dude says he was scared, trying to figure his escape opportunity, they want me to believe that during the moments he had to flee, he actually figured leaving his phone behind would aid the cops? Really? It’s already been established that his vehicle has some new tech device that would allow the cops to find it.

Perhaps. He does work in high tech as an entrepreneur, perhaps he’s worked on or invested in an app that uses tracking as one of its features. I have two on my own phone, Star Walk which needs my location to know what parts of the sky I can see, and GasBuddy, which locates nearest and cheapest gas stations.

Anyway, if he spends many of his waking hours thinking about ways to make money with the locator function, it’s not unreasonable that he would think of this particular use under other, more stressful, circumstances.

***************

Not necessarily new but many of the vehicles for the past few years are capable of being tracked via satellite connections for radio, phones, etc.

Found that part hard to believe too. A person escaping - who figures he has a good chance of being shot - wants the cell phone to call 911 for help. Choosing to leave the cell phone in the car is either not true, an amazing act of courage, or the guy from China is a trained soldier of some type. His choice was three standard deviations from any mean..,

Why do you disbelieve Danny? It is because of him the bombers got caught so soon.

It is when Danny pulled to the side of the road to text that he was car jacked. A lot of people do that. Considering it was late at night and not much traffic during that time, there's no reason for him not to answer a text, or send one.

He had 90 minutes to figure out what he was going to do. If you've ever been in a life/death situation, you'd know how Danny's mind was working.

It is a blessing that Danny's friend called him during the car jacking. That may have been the triggering point when it might have dawned on him what to do with his iphone. It also gave him the option of having it not on him anymore, meaning he didn't put it back in his jacket pocket.

Below, I have taken a key point about Danny's story that I will call a personal knowledge that it is PC BS. I designed an industrial processing plant in Taiwan in 2001. While living there to oversee the constructions and startup of the plant, we were riding with our employee interpreter just discussing Chinese in general and one of our party asked him if it was true that Chinese see white Americans as it is common to hear that all white people say that all blacks look the same.

First he said nothing but then the smile grew on his face and he started to laugh, admitting that our observation was in fact true. This from a trusted friend whom I worked with very closely for over a year getting this project to construction.

"Danny, trained as an engineer, made scrupulous mental notes of street signs and passing details, even as he abided the older Tsarnaev’s command not to study his face.

“Don’t look at me!” Tamerlan shouted at one point. “Do you remember my face?”

“No, no, I don’t remember anything,” he said.

Tamerlan laughed. “It’s like white guys, they look at black guys and think all black guys look the same,” he said. “And maybe you think all white guys look the same.”

“Exactly,” Danny said, though he thought nothing of the sort. It was one of many moments in their mental chess match, Danny playing up his outsider status in America and playing down his wealth — he claimed the car was older than it was, and he understated his lease payments — in a desperate hope of extending his life.:

I'd be interested in where his phone went after his friend called and No1 told him what to say.

I tend to think #1 took the phone....but either way the phone was left in the car...and that was helpful as well as the satellite tracking from the SUV to nail the two.
