How carjacking victim of Boston bombers left his iPhone in his Mercedes so police could track them and thwart their plans to drive to New York
********************************************
FBI officials released surveillance video of suspected bombers on April 18
- Hours later Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev hijacked a Mercedes
- 'Danny,' the car's owner says the men discussed traveling to NYC
- Officials have confirmed the Tsarnaevs were carrying a pressure cooker device and 5 pipe-bombs to detonate in Times Square
- Driver managed to escape when the brothers refilled on gas
- Danny says he left his iPhone in the Mercedes so police could track the car
- Police intercepted the brothers and a gun battle broke out early on April 19 in Watertown, Mass.
- Tamerlan, 26, was killed and Dzhokhar, 19, was captured nearly a day later
The driver whose car was hijacked by the Boston bombing suspects has revealed how authorities used the iPhone he left in the stolen car to track the fleeing brothers, thwarting their plans to attack New York City.
Known only as 'Danny,' the 26-year-old Chinese entrepreneur whose car was stolen, says he had pulled his car over to the side of the road to text when Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev approached his Mercedes at 11pm on April 18.
After an hour and a half in their company, Danny said this week that he managed to escape but purposely left his smartphone in the car and alerted police of the phone's tracking technology.

Travis McGee ~
They should fire the head of Bostons FBI, and replace him/her with Danny from China. NonValueAdded ~ I like the cut of your jib, sir!

Yes, I suppose it would. The phones aren’t that smart

Perhaps, I just struggle imagining being in the thrones of being carjacked with 2 guys who confess they are the boston bombers, and as you imagine your escape you are thinking of you phone? As I said, the vehicle had the tracking thing, which surely Danny knew.
Whatever, I just can’t reconcile the story he is giving. It doesn’t add up, for me. Hope I’m 100% wrong!

Still, not a bad idea, I’ll look into it.
Although people who know me might not believe it, I can communicate without puns.

Why would you hope the story is wrong? What is so bad about somebody thinking on their feet?

Its already been established that his vehicle has some new tech device that would allow the cops to find it.
***************
Not necessarily new but many of the vehicles for the past few years are capable of being tracked via satellite connections for radio, phones, etc.

Lots of loose ends but remember they did have to get gasoline, made three or so stops to try to get money with his atm card. So who knows what all they were doing.

I always pull over either to talk on my cell or to text. Since you apparently live in VA, I’d appreciate your doing the same instead of ‘yeah, right’ing.’

If it’s a newer Mercedes it can be tracked without the iPhone. The service is called mbrace and I think even the cars a few year older still can be tracked.

I don’t believe the “Danny is a carjacking victim” story either!

...the dude says he was scared, trying to figure his escape opportunity, they want me to believe that during the moments he had to flee, he actually figured leaving his phone behind would aid the cops? Found that part hard to believe too. A person escaping - who figures he has a good chance of being shot - wants the cell phone to call 911 for help. Choosing to leave the cell phone in the car is either not true, an amazing act of courage, or the guy from China is a trained soldier of some type. His choice was three standard deviations from any mean..,

I apparently didn’t make myself clear. I am hoping I am wrong in sensing that Danny’s story is fake. I would hope that he IS telling the whole truth. My instincts tell me different. Hence the reason I hope I am wrong. Does that help?
