A city councilwoman says a quilt made by a group of students should not be allowed to hang in the Martinsville City administration building.
She says the quilt is offensive to African Americans.
But the students who made it say it showcases what they learned working on a special project.
It's a story that's got plenty of people talking.

My answer to anyone is “If you don’t like what I do or say, tough. Deal with it” and then walk away.

So.. they drew a stick figure in black pen and she was offended? HAHAHAHAH. Pathetic.

Did even one white person work on or contribute to the quilt? Then it’s going to be offensive to African-Americans.

Were told it will stay in an office until city council makes a decision whether or not to hang it up. If it does get approved, it will have a disclaimer describing the quilt square.Oh brother.

I hate that phrase I am offended! my clients regularly use that phrase as if it is meaningful and I disabuse them quite hastily of the notion that they have the right to not be offended. I wish I could recall which well-known person said this, but his recommended response to someone claiming offense was a dismissive "So?".

Sadly the lesson learned by the student will wind up being...no matter how racist one is against ANY person (in Hodges case pure hatred of whites), no matter how STUPID, pigheaded, ignorant, uneducated, and purely evil you are...you can always wind up in politics.

One more example of how ANY hyphenated American will always be a lessor and lower class American.
If you define yourself every waking moment by race, color, sex, country of your ancestors ... you have shown yourself to be so ignorant of what it is to be an American maybe you might want to go back to the country/culture you love more than the USA. We would be very happy to see you go.
I hope I offended the permanently offended crowd.
Dealing with any of these xyz-American debris is like a tug of war where too many are pulling on the rope sideways. We don’t need your hyphenated, divisive kind. Bad enough our abomination of administration is filled with your type.

Sorry these weren’t little kids... at their age, there are so many subjects and venues of expression that actually might help them be successful in life. They could have produced a brochure. Needlework is something you might learn in grade or middle school... if my kids had wasted time in high school doing this instead of say SAT or AP prep, I would have lost it.

I remember when the Vietnam memorial was new, there were a lot of people who weren't too thrilled with the design, for various reasons. It was called "cold", and "lifeless" among other things. However, the vets have taken the memorial and made it their own. Can anyone see the raw emotion it brings forth regularly from viewers an still consider it cold? Or lifeless?
