Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) believes the Tea Party is ideologically similar to anarchists and that government is "inherently good."
Speaking on the Senate floor on Tuesday, Reid said he was frustrated that, "We have a situation where this country has been driven by the Tea Party for the last number of years." He then insinuated Tea Partiers were like anarchists.
"When I was in school, I studied government and I learned about the anarchists. Now, they were different than the Tea Party because they were violent," Reid said. "But they were anarchists because they did not believe in government in any level and they acknowledged it."
Reid asserted that unlike the anarchists he learned about in school, the Tea Party "kind of hides that" by not acknowledging, he claimed, that they do not believe in any form of government.

The Hairy Reed is the antichrist.
Harry Reid is not stupid. You do not get to be Senate Majority Leader by being stupid.
He might be corrupt, vindictive, petty, manipulative, power-hungry, and plain evil, but he is not stupid.
That’s one of the dichotomies that you’ll encounter between the left and the right.
The left has an inherent trust in government always doing the right thing and having benevolent motives toward society.
Conservatives, including the founders, inherently distrusted government, more specifically government power, and the founding documents reflected this distrust by limiting the powers of the government.
Although the "palaeolibertarians" seem to pull it off.
Then I’ll vote for “plain evil”, because there’s only one other reason that a man of his age and experience (which excludes the possibility of ignorance) might conclude that government is “inherently good”, and that’s stupidity.
Isaiah 5:20
I will, for the sake of discussion, grant “the left” that their politicians generally want to “do good things for, or to, society”
I will, for the sake of discussion, even grant that they sometimes DO achieve good things for society
It still baffles me how many “leftists” can so completely ignore, or gloss over, the patent facts that ... on many other occasions, their politicians do some very terrible things to society ... (the obvious candidates: Hitler, Stalin, Mao.... slaughtered how many tens of millions of people?)
At the very least, “the left” should be able to acknowledge that governmental powers can be abused, even by their own “side” ——— and go on from there with their political objectives ... in a more realistic, and careful, manner
It’s their Humanism that doesn’t allow them to see the dangers.
You can bring up Hitler, Stalin, Mao, etc, all day long, and it makes no impact on them, because they don’t even entertain the idea that the people in power now, that they support, could possibly do the things those guys did.
After all (and this is the basis of Humanism), “I’m a good person, so those I support must be good people too”.
Thus spake Big Brother. George Orwell saw you coming decades ago and warned us about you and your ilk.
No, no - libertarians are anarchists. Reid needs to read more FR.
well, THEY may be good people, but the persons they support may or may NOT be such good people
at the very least, they should realize that people attracted to powerful governmental posts could have either of at least 2 motivations,
1. to do all sorts of wonderful good things for/to society,
or
2. to mis-use the power for their own gain (and/or ego-maniacal ends)
If the “left” would at least acknowledge this possibility, that there COULD be a misuse of governmental power by certain politicians on occasion, then they would be more likely to screen their candidates to better achieve their true, goodygoody goals
I wish we could convince them of at least that much... we’d all be better off for the effort
hairbrain reid is a fn a-hole.
“We have a situation where this country has been driven by the Tea Party for the last number of years.”
WOW, just WOW. I know that he knows that he is flat out lying, but sadly the drone sheeple will buy into this nonsense. All I can say is that if this country was being driven by the Tea Party, then we certainly would not have been enslaved with Obamacare and we would certainly not be approaching $17T in debt.
We haven’t been “driven by the tea party” since 1988.
Hmm. A Communist talking smack about anarchists.
Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it
is a dangerous servant and a fearful master. - George Washington
Who should I believe? George Washington or a mob-connected criminal?
That “inherently good” government that Reid loves so much is the government that allowed for slavery, interned germans and japanese, and many other evils. We are truly living in craziness when people support an individual like this that believes that individuals are “inherently evil,” yet a soulless government organization is “inherently good.”
Everything a government does rests on the use of force. No law actually is a law unless it is backed by the threat of force. So long as what the government makes illegal are merely acts representing the initiation of force, it is the friend and guarantor of freedom. But, to whatever extent the government makes illegal acts that do not represent the initiation of force, it is the enemy and violator of freedom. in making such acts illegal, it becomes the initiator of force.
Thus, while the existence of freedom requires the existence of government, it requires the existence of a very specific kind of government: namely a limited government, a government limited exclusively to the functions of defense and retaliation against the initiation of force-that is, to the provisions of police, courts and national defense.
The responsibility for today's lousy economy is squarely that of the government. At a deeper level it is the responsibility of the pressure groups and the demagogues who are responsible for the government's pursuit of anti capitalistic policies. Above all, at a deeper level still, it is the responsibility of the last several generations of intellectuals who, corrupted by the philosophy of irrationalism, altruism, and collectivism, have polluted the intellectual environment of the country to the point where there is little or no serious opposition to the activities of the pressure groups and the demagogues.
“COULD be a misuse of governmental power by certain politicians on occasion, then they would be more likely to screen their candidates to better achieve their true, goodygoody goals
I wish we could convince them of at least that much... wed all be better off for the effort”
You will never convince them that there could be any misuse of government. They don’t consider the millions killed by Hitler, Mao, Stalin, etc as any misuse of government. Just look at how they treat you and me and the tea party in general. They demonize real Americans for daring to speak against dear leader, it is a small step from that demonization to actually supporting the elimination of those that stand in the way of Utopian policies.
See, to them it is PROPER for their leaders to eliminate anyone or anything that is standing in the way of the Utopian world that they desire and could accomplish if they would just get rid of their opposition. It is, after all, better for the remaining citizens if you and I were just eliminated and then we wouldn’t be standing in their way.
What they don’t understand is that there will ALWAYS some enemy or opposition that is preventing the implementation of their Utopian world. That is why the left is always creating groups and then pitting them against each other.
They will not be convinced, because they are useful idiots and they will be used, until it is their time to be killed.
