I recently applied for a Illinois state mandated FOID (Firearm owners Identification) card. The law as written states that the card must be issued or declined for cause within 30 days of your $10.00 fee check being cashed.
Well, to begin with, it took them 2 1/2 weeks to cash the check. Now 12 weeks after that still no card or notification. I have contacted my state rep (a Republican) for what good it will do and also notified the NRA of the situation.
I know they have a high number of apps to deal with but the law is the law. I'm beginning to believe this is a surreptitious attempt at limiting the purchase or legal ownership of firearms. Maybe they figure after a long enough period of time people will just give up.
Thoughts?

My background check for a Mosin-Nagant 1937 bolt action rifle took 4 days. The gun shop said it was typical for first-time customers.
Sometimes, Illinois will never give you a response. Your app gets “lost” in the shuffle. I don’t know what you can do about it, that’s just the way it is.
My most recent one was a couple of months ago and took about 30 minutes. If that.
I prefer to rely on the Second Amendment as my permission slip.
glad I don’t live there. Illinois has been corrupt (thx Chicago) for decades, don’t expect anyone to give a crap about the regular citizen. It is a liberal sh!thole and probably can’t be saved.
You might think of moving somewhere else and adapting to more freedom-based life-style. IMO
This is mind over matter.
They don’t mind and you don’t matter.
Built a home on 2 acres on a 1000 acre lake (great Bass and Walleye fishing.
That decision wouldn’t come easy.
call the Illinois state police. ask why the holdup. do you have a record that would bar you from getting a foid? maybe it’s just that many people are backlogging the system.
You’re a brave soul for trying to make a go of it in that state, considering that perverted, soul-killing, corruption-oozing, turd-world hellhole that sits in Cook County.
Sent my application in November; got the lousy card in March. Had to call them twice to find out what was going on (”lot’s of applications” . . .). The card came in the mail within a couple of days of my second call (as if they had been sitting on it until I called them).
The real kicker - my wife and son got theirs within the 30 day period (we all sent in forms on the same day).
Totally arbitrary so far as I can tell - pretty much like most of government in this God-forsaken state.
Did. Expected excuse....they’re backlogged.
Much as I dislike the Chicago regime, the problem is probably due to backlog. They're getting buried under FOID requests.
Luckily I’m 4 hours from that sewer.
Perhaps, but remember, incompetence is excellent cover for malice.
We all have to live with the consequences of our decisions, don’t we? Hope the fishing makes up for what you lost.
Have a nice day!
Ever consider the undocumented route? As an undocumented firearm owner, I’m quite content.
It’s crossed my mind.
