“I grew up in the 80s. Things seemed so simple and easy. Now everything is so dark and serious.”

The 80’s were dark and serious in a lot of ways. The Carter recession, more Cold War brinksmanship, an assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan, AIDS awareness, the crack cocaine epidemic and gangs, the death of Rock and Roll...

I was a kid! I remember it like this:

Bye Carter! Thanks for the Billie Beer!
"Mr. Gorbachev - tear down this wall."
"He counted on America to be passive; he counted wrong"
Def Leppard, Billie Idol, Tears for Fears, Genesis, Duran Duran!

To me, AIDS was something bad in Africa. Drugs and gangs were something bad in California. No one ever got sent home for eating a poptart in the shape of a gun. And the only crime was how much White Rain volumizing mousse extra hold I used to get my hair to look like Kelly's in the movie Weird Science.
