Congressional leaders in both parties are engaged in high-level, confidential talks about exempting lawmakers and Capitol Hill aides from the insurance exchanges they are mandated to join as part of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul, sources in both parties said.
The talks — which involve Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), the Obama administration and other top lawmakers — are extraordinarily sensitive, with both sides acutely aware of the potential for political fallout from giving carve-outs from the hugely controversial law to 535 lawmakers and thousands of their aides. Discussions have stretched out for months, sources said.
A source close to the talks says: “Everyone has to hold hands on this and jump, or nothing is going to get done.”
Yet if Capitol Hill leaders move forward with the plan, they risk being dubbed hypocrites by their political rivals and the American public. By removing themselves from a key Obamacare component, lawmakers and aides would be held to a different standard than the people who put them in office.
Democrats, in particular, would take a public hammering as the traditional boosters of Obamacare. Republicans would undoubtedly attempt to shred them over any attempt to escape coverage by it, unless Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) give Democrats cover by backing it....

Federal employees and federal retirees are exempt from Obamacare.
Federal employees = The cloud dwellers, living in luxury.
Everyone else = The troglodytes, mining xenite with their hands.
There is a provision in the Act requiring that Congressional members and their aides join the exchanges. That’s what this is about.

This is just the first crack in the dam, when the flood starts everyone will get an exemption.
They may even call it “the universal exemption act”
They won’t call it repeal. You have let people save face.
I understand. But this does not affect active federal employees of the executive branch and federal retirees. We (I’m a federal retiree. 34 years, active duty US Army, Defense Dept. and FAA) are in the Federal Employee Health Benefit Program (FEHBP) and are exempt from the provisions of Obamacare. At least for now.
The morons finally read the bill and didn’t like “what’s in it.” It’s too bad Americans don’t have that same opportunity.
Anyone exempt from this trash clown-car law should be arrested and deported to Chechnya.
My husband is DOD. Are all federal employees exempt? This is unfair. I think of my kids, nieces, nephews....this is wrong.

That’s part of why its such bad law. All the damn exemptions and waivers. Hopefully this whole sorry statist scheme called Obamacare will die before it causes any more damage.

If it’s so wonderful, why are so many asking for(and getting) exemptions from it?
