It took less than 4 1/2 years of the Obama presidency for President George W. Bush to mount his comeback. While doing absolutely nothing on his own behalf (hes been the most silent ex-president in my lifetime), his approval is up to 47 percent according to The Post/ABC poll. Thats up 14 points from his final poll in office. For comparisons sake President Obamas RCP average is a tad over 49 percent.
Why the shift? Aside from the memories fade point, many of his supposed failures are mild compared to the current president (e.g. spending, debt). Unlike Obamas tenure, there was no successful attack on the homeland after 9/11. People do remember the big stuff rallying the country after the Twin Towers attack, 7 1/2 years of job growth and prosperity, millions of people saved from AIDS in Africa, a good faith try for immigration reform, education reform and a clear moral compass.

Ha. You are so funny. I don’t admire Clinton or Obama. And Bush was a much better President than Obama. But that does not mean Bush was a great President. Bush and Roves policies gave us Obama.
You still don’t get it. Bush and Rove’s policies were the reason for one of the lowest approvals in history. They ran off a lot of conservatives. Was Bush a better President than Obama? Of course. But that’s not saying much. I won’t be voting for another Bush under any circumstance. And a lot of people here feel the same way. I will vote for Hillary before I vote for Jeb.
See post 91, proves my point by your reply.
Certainly, the MSM dogs the GOP. But its always been that way.
It was the policies of Bush and Rove that gave us Obama. You
can thank Bush and Rove for that. I bet it wont be long in the
future, you will be promoting Jeb Clampett Bush.
But dont expect a lot of us to run out and vote for him. It’s not going to happen.
And when you assume.......
Just because I am being kind this morning, I wont say what I would like to say.
I like GW Bush, he made mistakes but overall I like him.
I find Jeb Bush to be an arrogant SOB, and wouldn’t support him for dog catcher.
Do not project your fantasies on me......
If the Republicans do not nominate an actual conservative in the next election cycle, I will refrain from voting for the president slot but as always vote in all other sections.
So now run along and pester someone else.
Well you assume I don’t think Bush is a good, decent man. I think GW is a good and decent man. However, that did not make him a great President.
John McCain is a War Hero. But that does not make him a good GOP Senator.
We simply differ on the meaning of the article. You believe it’s just about George Bush. I believe it has a broader effect. One that is part of the process to prep the way for Jeb.
BTW, don’t ever tell me to run away. If you post on this public site, I’ll post
right back at any moment I choose.
Well, ok sonny.
If you have that much time be my guest.........
‘now run along kid you bother me’.
Be sure to look for me in all the other forums, so you can reply your little heart away.........((eye roll))
The same Bush who made American citizenship pointless as our borders became a violent, lawless free for all, with millions entering illegally..During war time?
The same Bush, who when AFTER 911 allowed into the U.S. more Muslims than the previous two decades?
The same Bush who's Homeland Security Boss, Mr. Chertoff was found to have people who entered the country illegally wandering around his private residence?
Hey, was it not Bush who implemented more massive bloated government agencies which are now costing the American tax payers hundreds of billions every year?
Wrong, the people who gave us obama where the people who voted for him and oh ya the people who supported McCain into the nomination - McCain was not a conservative.
You seem to to have as much time as I do. Run along to yourself.
A 27% approval at the end of his Presidency because of his policies guaranteed a democrat to win. You can talk about the MSM all you want. But the FACT IS he finished with a 27% approval. That’s FACT, not fantasy!!!
That "balanced budget" that Bush inherited was a result of factors that had NOTHING to do with fiscal responsibility, such as the Cold War and its burden that had ended, and the tax revenue that was generated by the jobs created by the Tech Boom.
Of course, there were numerous AQ attacks during Clinton's watch, but the MSM faithfully kept our attention off of those attacks and on all of those jobs created by Y2K and ecommerce, as if none of that would have happened without Clinton. When Bush was sworn in, the tech bubble had already burst, and 9/11 the WOT was about to hit us in our pocketbooks.
I was mad year after year because im a fiscal hawk.
Were you mad at AQ because off the numerous attacks they launched against us during the Clinton years and on 9/11, or were you mad at Clinton for punting the WOT and its expense to the next administration?
Im also a big fan of Senator Taft so how do you think I felt seeing this guy on TV telling the world were invading a nation that never attacked America and was 6,000 miles away?
How did you feel when the sanctions that killed and estimated 500,000 children and teenagers in Iraq during the Clinton years were lifted, or when the intelligence that was obtained in Iraq led directly to Bin Laden (don't be put off by the title, read on)?
I was so happy it all collapsed on his watch. In fact I had a huge party.
You mean the housing crisis that the Dems caused, or the expense of the WOT that Clinton punted on? You're glad Bush got the blame for that? OK.
He left office with a 27% approval. Absolutely pathetic and well deserved.
The MSM thought so.
Now hopefully we will have a new generation of conservatives determined to actually shut down Federal agencies rather than create them (DHS? TSA?).
I'll meet you halfway on this. The TSA? Remember the debate during the early 2000s about whether they should be government employees or private employees? The GOP caved, and we got the TSA. That compromise and reaching across the aisle in order to appease the Dems and keep the MSM off their back did neither, and they paid for it in 2008 and 2012.
The DHS? We'll have to agree to disagree on that one.#39;ll meet you halfway on this. The TSA? why are you upset? You got what you wanted, the defeat of John McCain and Mitt Romney.
That’s what I don’t get about you BDS sufferers. You’re STILL angry. You got what you wanted, why aren’t you jumping for joy?
About that last paragraph, I don’t know how that happened, but it should have read “The DHS? We’ll have to agree to disagree on that one.”
bump
so are endless wings at Golden Corral!!
“why are you upset? You got what you wanted, the defeat of John McCain and Mitt Romney.
Thats what I dont get about you BDS sufferers. Youre STILL angry. You got what you wanted, why arent you jumping for joy?”
No, and you know ‘we’ did’nt get what we wanted! WE wanted a CONSERVATIVE, what did YOU want??? LOOKS like YOU got what you wanted....a squishy ‘compassionate’ GOP... Bush!
Your tactics are those of the left!
You WISH you were the patriot dragnet 2 is! I’m sick of you people who excuse the damage Bush, McCain, et al have done and try to blame innocent voters for it!
Yeah, we’re angry ‘cause it’s still going on and YOU ignore it, and if you’re not angry, you serve the enemy!
But then I just heard Bush say he would NEVER criticize Obama for any issue.
SILENCE IS CONSENT!
The most divisive president ever in office and FR has turned into a forum to bash Bush.
I remember when FR bashed the good Rick Santorum for not “endorsing” Pat Toomey who was called, at the time, the perfect conservative. Oh wait. Nevermind.
Keep on bashing Bush, that will surely cause Barack Hussein Obama to smile a little more.
God help us all.
