City University of New York Professor Ruth O'Brien complains in an op-ed that "too much force" had been used against Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was killed by the police. -snip- This said, the mortuary pictures of the older brother of the two are extremely disturbing, raising questions as to whether the Boston Police Department captured him with too much force. I understand the explanation offered by Katharine Q. Seelye, William H. Rashbaum, and Michael Cooper. Yet, it does not ring true. A picture is worth a thousand words that will keep our ears ringing as we recoil from this photo. Images have a way of searing themselves into our memory in a way that cant be undone. We have an emotional memory, not just a rational one that is exemplified by words. While terrorism is about causing fear again an emotion we do have to account for our conduct in these extreme times when adrenaline is running high. At my home, to at least offset this, we turn off all media. I couldnt believe my sons explanation when they got home about one brother running over the other one. So I found a place to read about this, and I recoiled after seeing the picture. Still, we all know that terrorism, like crime, leads if it bleeds with the established media. The established media fixates on the domestic-violence or crime-of-passion aspect of terrorism, and it, too, inculcates more fear in all of us.

I think she left out the part about how these two losers used too much force in trying to remain unarrested. If’they’d only have used the pressure cooker bomb and the handguns but not the pipebomb, dear Professor, perhaps they could have been arrested with less force????
Go draft some pressure-cooker-control legislation, Professor.
The whole tree fell on that one!
I do have to admit that the cops fired a lot of rounds and there are no media reports that confirm Brother 1 was hit by police fire and the only bullet wounds #2 sustained, were apparently self-inflicted.
SETS OF DEPENDS, THEY NEED!
It’s more important to a liberal to display their lofty sentiment, than it is to avoid looking utterly stupid. This will be hard to top, she succeeded.
scares me that people like this a$$ clown actually breed more idiots
Nice glasses too at least the trend has moved away from those little rectangular glasses everyone was wearing.
Well look at it this way...TC running over yer bro is probably what Allah would have wanted in the spirit if jihad....in this particklar case....how peaceful can a religion of peace get? See now big bro lies peacfully in a nice cool slab of marble one of the Boston morgues....And in the alternative....have you thought of this?...couldn’t the Boston Police just have ‘turned the other cheek’ in this situation and not engaged in this vicious one sided man hunt at all. Then might that gesture of other cheekedness have somehow softened the hearts of the kilers and then they’d just have lain down their guns and pressure cookers and left the country peaceably and quietly and quickly perhaps even gobernment provided choppers...thus ending this altogether ugly incident altogether. And most importantly, they’d have left it in the spirit of the religion of peace and in the peace word of the messenger. BWAAAAAAAAAACK! anyway.... PEACE OUT BRO, WORD TO YO MOMMA..
The people who use too much force are the people who win.
I would like to think that at some point in time there was - maybe when they were trying to capture the older brother? Thank heavens our military doesn’t function like the Keystone Cops, although even they are not allowed to function like a military should any longer.
We have a president who hates the military and everything it stands for so I’m no longer surprised by anything that comes out of DC any more.
This is like when Katie Couric suggested during a 2005 airplane incident that air marshals should shoot to incapacitate instead of shoot to kill.

It was “too much force” in the sense of thousands (tens of thousands?) of heavily armed and armored police chasing a single 19-year-old, while citizens were ordered to hide behind their curtains.
The only concession I will allow is that we didn’t know if he was alone, or if the entire Al-Quaeda West contingent was with him. Still, there are enough police and State Police in Massachusetts to handle much if not all of the search.
Better yet, there would have been plenty of volunteers willing to be “deputized” to assist.
The ultimate irony is that the suspect was caught when a civilian noticed his boat covering had been disturbed. In another age, with a six-shooter on his hip, the civilian probably could have made the arrest by himself.
