Zooey Deschanel had nothing to do with the Boston Marathon bombings. Not exactly breaking news, right?
Tell that to Peter Ogburn's television set, which, while the radio show producer and writer was watching the manhunt for a second suspect unfold on his local Fox station, misidentified the 19-year-old man police were looking for as...
Zooey Deschanel!
"Marathon bombing, he is 19-year-old Zooey Deschanel," read the errant caption, which flubbed the name of Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, who was ultimately arrested Friday night after he was found hiding in a boat behind a home in Watertown, Mass.
"Whoa! Epic closed captioning FAIL! "@joelmchale: Oh my RT @peterogburn: pic.twitter.com/F3sbpmq9WO," the New Girl star wrote, retweeting Joel McHale's flabbergasted retweet.
"Oh come on, Fox," Ogburn wrote in first catching the error and sharing a pic of the screen on Twitter.
He also retweeted McHale and Deschanel's reactions, then tweeted the actress, "@ZooeyDeschanel So, you're saying it wasn't you?"
We think that's what she's saying.
Local FOX channel with bad spellcheck.
Spellcheck? How can you spell Tsarnaev as Deschanel?
The CC program probably did not recognize the unusual foreign name.
Ever watch the closed captioning on any news channel? It just guesses at words it isn’t programmed to know, and just substitutes a similar word it has used before.
NOT GUILTY! —— and very funny in her current show.
Not guilty with delicious intent!
This is funny... On another note, does anyone know how the LE got the names of the suspects when they were looking for them? Did they discover their names, or did some citizen call them in. I still have not heard anyone answer this question. Maybe I missed it.
I was up all Thursday night with the live thread of the chase.
At the time, I deduced that the authorities got their names by virtue of Suspect #1s demise. Shortly after he was taken to the hospital, the names were announced.
Rebuilding the sequence in retrospect:
The owner of car-jacked Mercedes escaped and called the police, telling them the Marathon bombers had stolen his car.
The Boston police focussed on the car, found it...and the chase and firefight ensued.
Suspect #1 got himself shot, then run over by his brother. He ends up in the hospital...with his identification on him.
Suspect #1 is thus identified as Tamarlan Tsarnaev and, from there, it's a quick trip to identifying Suspect #2 as his younger brother Dzhokhar (which could be easily confirmed by the surveillance photos).
At least they didn’t get her confused with Katy Perry.
That sounds like AP quality spell-checking.
Haha! I love her sisters show, Bones.
Zoey showed up there as the Ben Franklin-quoting cousin.
Mrs. Peet sex Zoey = “the pretty sister.” Peet _must_ agree.
Bones has gone down the tubes — Brennan has started acting like a buffoon, Booth is all squishy and new-age sensitive beta-male, the Toyota commercials IN the show suck, and the scriptwriters have gone leftist, blame-America-first, hollyweird.
Bones is dead, all that is left is the corpse twitching...
Uhhhhh...
love Sealy Booth! i still enjoy Bones... but i am ready for Bones to move on... it’s been on long enough... Sealy is a hunk!
