Your words remind me of Harry Reids on the protest against the gun bill and the worries over our 2nd Amendment rights.

"imagining tyranny". The videos leave little to the imagination.

I'll close and move on myself now with this quote:

Benjamin Franklin - "Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one."

You incorrectly assume public and personal safety cannot be met within the confines of the Constitution and the founding ideals of his nation.

You need to take a civics class. Totalitarianism never works is oppresses people and the nation; it does not promote safety.

“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”, Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759

“I’m glad that no one else got injured or killed “

Except one cop that got killed and another critically injured??

I would measure success by no one getting injured or killed and no rights stomped on.

I’m speaking to the time the search began at the scene where he was on foot, not the actions preceding it. And bless you for remembering the death of the MIT officer and the serious wounds the Transit officer suffered. I am gratified that Joker was caught, and for now, is no longer a threat to the public and the police.

” He merely has to enter a house and tie up the occupants until the police leave.”

YOU are responsible for your own safety. You wrongly, again, assume someone else is responsible for your safety. It is not the government’s job to protect you from bad guys. They cannot possibly be everywhere at all times to protect you. That is childish to believe, “Daddy, Daddy, Fix it!”

I can guarantee you if that bad guy had been in many other places he wouldn’t have survived the hour. In Boston? Hells Bells, bad guys can get everyone to cower and stay inside and not look for them!

All those cops, all those agencies, all that training and experience and yet no one could come up with a plan that didn’t violate their first sworn duty the defend and protect the Constitution of the United States? Now that’s SAD.

“The people I salute are those who responded to the bombings by running towards the sites.”

Same here! Those are the heroes of the hour! People that run toward conflict or danger are the ones to celebrate as a society.

I asked what could have been done differently and the posters offered their opinions. I am satisfied with the responses. I am moving on.

There will probably be a review and the policy will be "banned", but they will do something similar regardless. For the case of of the suspect the evidence gathered was deemed clean: http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_21865764/judge-rules-aurora-police-justified-mass-traffic-stop but there was no legal test of the innocent stops. Suppose one of the stopped people had a bag of mary jane on the front seat. There's very little chance that evidence would be admitted and that's the proper legal test. The cops know better than to attempt that legal test.

“”When they forced their way into a neighbor’s house I said nothing, because they where looking for terrorist.”

“When they forced their way into my house looking for my guns no one said anything, because they said I was a terrorist.””

Excellent point and it goes with what has been said for years: They’ll never tell the good cops and military to attack Americans; they’ll call them “Domestic Terrorists” first.

Maybe you should post what you have learned. It is bothersome to think a FReeper supports totalitarianism.

There’s the argument about whether its better to be in town or out in the boonies. At least in town you have neighbors to take video of them hauling you off.

I’ve made a note to stay out of the North East. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t respond well to such an event.

He’s not a joker, he’s a terrorist.

You seek to diminish him while taking away rights of law abiding citizens, why?

It might have something to do with the fact they were all standing around. Those that weren’t violating the Constitution.

It is of no importance to post what I believe. The greater good has been served by drawing out what others believe.

Once again you do it.

Totalitarianism isn’t the answer. Perhaps you want to live in a police state, I do not.
