The United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers supported Obamacare when it was being pushed through, but the law is turning out to be such a disaster that it’s become the first union to call for its repeal.
The president of the union, Kinsey Robinson, says he’s concerned that his members may lose their existing healthcare plans. Additionally, the way the Affordable Care Act is written may force the union to drop its health care plan for retirees.

Currently, the union’s health care plan covers up to 2 million dollars in lifetime medical bills for active members of the union, but that amount is quite understandably capped at $50,000 for retirees. Because of Obamacare, the retiree plans would have to become more expensive and the $50,000 caps would have to be removed. Those enormous new costs are putting the Roofers Union in the unenviable position of having to choose between paying out more than it can afford and just dropping the retiree plans altogether.
Kinsey Robinson released the following statement.
Our Union and its members have supported President Obama and his Administration for both of his terms in office.
But regrettably, our concerns over certain provisions in the ACA have not been addressed, or in some instances, totally ignored. In the rush to achieve its passage, many of the Acts provisions were not fully conceived, resulting in unintended consequences that are inconsistent with the promise that those who were satisfied with their employer sponsored coverage could keep it.
These provisions jeopardize our multi-employer health plans, have the potential to cause a loss of work for our members, create an unfair bidding advantage for those contractors who do not provide health coverage to their workers, and in the worst case, may cause our members and their families to lose the benefits they currently enjoy as participants in multi-employer health plans.
For decades, our multi-employer health and welfare plans have provided the necessary medical coverage for our members and their families to protect them in times of illness and medical needs. This collaboration between labor and management has been a model of success that should be emulated rather than ignored. I refuse to remain silent, or idly watch as the ACA destroys those protections.
I am therefore calling for repeal or complete reform of the Affordable Care Act to protect our employers, our industry, and our most important asset: our members and their families.
Sorry to say this, buddy, but, WE TOLD YOU SO.
The only way I see ObamaCare ever being repealed is when America finally collapses under its weight. That isn’t going to take long once McCain and Grahamnesty pass their 8 Gangbanger Amenesty Bill.
Didn’t they apply for and receive a waiver?
Most of those were for unionized outfits.
Didn’t get the email from MoveOn.org?
“We wanna do-over!”
Doesn’t work that way, Jake.
Conserned? Hes concerned that his members may lose their existing healthcare plans?
You idiot! That was the plan from the beginning. How can you have government run socialized medicine if your members keep their existing healthcare plans?
Too late, dummies. Enjoy!
I have a better idea. Make OCare mandatory only for those who supported it, to the third and fourth generation.
Not for union members. This bunch screwed up.

FU, Roofers Union! suffer like the rest of us...
Gee!
Nobody saw that coming did they?
Duh, nope! /S
This guy and all of the smaller unions were patsies pushing for Obamas signature legislation that would cement his legacy of equal opportunity poverty for all Americans.
The Big Unions (SEIU, Teamsters and UAW) were in on the plan because they were Obamas insiders.
Why doesn’t the Roofer’s Union read the Constitution and push for repealing Obamacare by pointing out the following. Regardless what activist justices have told us about the constitutionality of Obamacare, Congress wrongly ignored its constitutonal Article V requirement to first petition the states to ratify a healthcare amendment to the Constitution which would have granted Congress the specific power that it needed to regulate, tax and spend for healthcare purposes.
Most of them were good for only one year.
And of course there was nothing in the legislation that gave the President the power to grant waivers. Obama makes up the law as he goes along.
I thought the waivers where found to be illegal and thus null and void. Those that thought they were exempt are now part of the plan. Now they are against it.
Well well......... Roofer rats are deserting the Rats .
The thugs are leaving the criminals.
Damn man....... they are roofers. They can’t read
Union membership is for those who can not read. That’s the reason for unions
Too bad it's three years too late.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
I despise everyone who voted for Obama, everyone who likes him, everyone who ever supported anything he said or did, and especially everyone who gave him and the democrats the slightest help, support or encouragement in forcing Obamacare on America.
That includes late-to-the-party Dumbos like this who finally realize how utterly stupid and gullible they really are.
I wouldn’t give a gob of warm spit for an entire planet full of them.

They finally saw their Health Care costs go through the roof and the benifits fall to the basement.
FU, Roofers Union! suffer like the rest of us...
Like the rest of us???? I agree with your intended sentiment...but the 'rest of us' does not include the multidude of corporations/unions, since 'Obamacare' (passed March 2010), that have applied for and received waivers for being included under this Affordable Care Act.
