“The boat might be worth a small fortune to someone who collects historical hardware”

Won’t it be seized as evidence? Could be a looooong time before he gets it back?

I wonder what good it would do at this point to do anything other than process the boat and release it to the owner. In the Marathon crime, Joker is facing three counts of murder, multiple counts of attempted murder, mayhem, possession of explosive devices with the intent to commit murder, and any number of counts of conspiracy to commit these crimes. Following that there is the murder of the MIT police officer, and the attempted murder of the transit officer, armed carjacking, kidnapping, more counts of possession of explosives, more counts of conspiracy and the attempted murder of more police officers.

The boat is not necessary as evidence of anything until the chase ends and they find him there. Perhaps they will still file charges relating to the boat incident, but I think there is plenty without it to execute him, or figuring that the Obama administration is sympathetic to him, give him several life sentences and let him out after a few years and hire him at Cornell as a full Professor with tenure after a few years.
