“FBI Arrests Aurora Teen On Charge Of Supporting Terrorism Overseas”
April 20, 2013 2:41 PM

CHICAGO (CBS) —
SNIPPET: “The FBI says it has been investigating Tounisi since 2012. The FBI claims he was a close friend of of Adel Daoud, who was arrested in September 2012 for attempting to detonate a bomb outside a bar in Chicago.”

SNIPPET: “The FBI claims Tounisi conducted online research on overseas travel and violent jihad from January to April 2013, focusing on the Jabhat al-Nusrah terrorist group. In late March 2013, the FBI claims he made contact with a man he believed was an undercover agent posing as a recruiter for the terrorist group and exchanged a series of emails in which Tounisi shared his plan to get to Syria by way of Turkey and willingness to die for the cause.

Tounisi purchased an airline ticket for a flight from Chicago to Istanbul on April 10 and the undercover agent provided him with a bus ticket from Istanbul to Gaziantep, Syria, according to the FBI. He was arrested after passing through airport security.”

A Chicago teen was arrested in Chicago for trying to blow up a bar with a car bomb. News 9 reported:

Undercover FBI agents arrested an 18-year-old American man who tried to detonate what he believed was a car bomb outside a downtown Chicago bar, federal prosecutors said Saturday.

Adel Daoud, a U.S. citizen from the Chicago suburb of Hillside, was arrested Friday night in an undercover operation in which agents pretending to be extremists provided him with a phony car bomb.

The U.S. District Attorney’s Office in Chicago announced the arrest Saturday and said the device was inert and that the public was never at risk.

Daoud is charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to damage and destroy a building with an explosive.

The FBI began monitoring him he allegedly posted material online about violent jihad and the killing of Americans, federal prosecutors said.

In May, two undercover FBI employees contacted Daoud in response to the material and exchanged several electronic messages with him in which he expressed an interest in engaging in violent jihad in the United States or abroad, according to an affidavit.

SNIPPET: “He also registered with an online jihad-related Internet forum and e-mailed individuals a PowerPoint presentation titled “The Osama bin Laden I Know.”

“Osama wasn’t crazy for wanting to destroy America,” he wrote. “This superpower killed millions of people.”

Daoud also praised American-born al-Qaida cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, writing that “those people insulting awlaki can go kill themselves” and prayed that Awlaki, who was killed in a U.S. drone strike in Yemen last year, would be accepted as a martyr.

Court records indicate Daoud’s desire to carry out a terrorist attack was spurred by instructions from al-Qaida’s Inspire magazine: “I live in the United States of America/hypocrisy. I want to in the future insha’Allah go for jihad in the Cause of Allah….i hate the oppression of the USA and i would love to do something that would hurt it from the inside.”

American civilians were “legal targets” for attack, he wrote, because Americans “pay their taxes which fund the government’s war against Islam” and they “VOTE for the leaders who kill us every day.””
