Rough & Ready Lumber Co. to close, put 85 out of work

CAVE JUNCTION — The owners of Rough & Ready Lumber Co. of Cave Junction are closing what they say is the last sawmill operating in Josephine County. [snip] The company said in a press release it was operating only one shift and couldn't get enough logs from federal forests.

It is the same story all over Logging Country: From thriving industry to the welfare state, in the name of rabid environmentalism, aided and abetted by the federal government.

Coal is going the same way, as well as several other resource industries.

I’m very sorry to learn of this. In the late 70s, I knew the family that owned and ran the company. Visited their home several times, and toured the mill.
